Chapter 72: Sparkes and Blood – Bloody Battle, Part 2

The vampire came through the dust with one arm hanging at its side. Martin fired his shotgun twice. Remembering his earlier experience, he was holding it tight. The blasts took off the other arm and shattered the vampire's knee. Martin took an extra split second to aim while the creature tried to balance on its one good leg. The next shot was through the heart. He could see the tunnel through the vampire before it collapsed to the ground. Martin picked up the machine pistol and changed magazines. He strapped it on again before reloading the shotgun. The longer he could use his trustworthy weapons, the better.

"I'll watch the tunnel at your back," Reba said, "Bill's gone to get the other quad and some rope. There's no winch on that one. We'll try to have your spare weapons ready for when you come out."

"Thanks," Martin said, "I'm heading in."
