Chapter 60: Trapped (Part 2)

Maera was waiting as Lycon and Justin dropped down on the other side. Here, the boulevard was lined with destroyed building fronts. The structures had been reduced to rubble-filled husks. The dark essence of daemyn hung over everything like a sopping wet sheet. Ducking low, Lycon and Maera jogged up the street.

"Is there any way out of the city?" Justin asked as he followed.

"When the assault began," said Lycon, "many citizens initially escaped by water, but only the first wave of ships made it out. Those that lagged behind were targeted and destroyed by the demons' black magic. There isn't an ocean-worthy vessel left around here for miles. As for the inland route, Yordar's forces have it blocked off and heavily guarded."

Lycon came to an abrupt halt in an alleyway, scanned the area, and placed Maera on her feet beside him.

"Do you remember the code?" he asked.

"Of course," she said.
