It took the blue tiger seconds to close the gap. In three lunges, it pushed through the trees and jumped with claws outstretched.
Justin, frozen in shock, would have been killed if not for Ahlund. The tall Guardian planted his boot against Justin's hip and kicked hard at the same moment, simultaneously pushing Justin forward and himself backward. Justin tumbled headlong into the ground as the tiger crashed through the foliage.
Before he even stopped rolling, Ahlund drew his sword, set it ablaze, and brandished the flaming weapon at the tiger, trying to ward it back. The tiger hesitated, sizing Ahlund up for a weakness. Retractable claws the size of a man's fingers sheathed and unsheathed within the toes of its massive feet as it pawed the leafy ground in anticipation.
Justin scrambled to his feet. Only now did he begin to grasp the size of the tiger. It was a cat as big as a rhinoceros.
