Chapter 144: War (Part 1)

"Blast!" said Marcus Worth. "I can see them now!"

Now that Leah redirected her attention, she could see them, too. There were ships coming upriver through the Borderwoods, and the thousand or so Darvellian soldiers along the edge of the forest were waiting for them.

"Ah, so that is their plan," said Sif. "Ferry their soldiers across the river."

"Never mind that," growled Olorus. "Who knows how many more they're transporting within the guts of those ships!"

Leah could already see three vessels so far, and more were coming. She looked at Hook, whose eyes were sharper than the rest, and she was surprised to see that he was grinning.

Hook looked at her and signed, "They are war galleys. The first is a demon ship. The rest are not."

"A demon ship," Leah said. She squinted toward the river. "Leading Mythaean war galleys! It's Gunnar!"
