Chapter 28

Needless to say, the messenger sent by Steward Baldric gave Lord Ridgley some disquieting news, namely the fact that Sir Wystan failed to mention he did not have title on the land when they first discussed building the mill at Falls Ende. However, he was pleased that the matter was now resolved... or was it? Steward Baldric added that the lord's constant inebriation, belligerence and mood swings made communication extremely difficult.

Steward Baldric was not born into nobility, and understandably, Sir Wystan found it difficult to discuss sensitive matters with a mere freeman. Lord Ridgley could relate to that, but this was an issue young Wystan needed to come to grips with, or he'd be forever shackled by his self-serving attitude. Born into nobility did not mean you were better than anyone else, though this point of view was not shared by all.
