Remembering what his father, Godwin, had told him all those years ago, Odo judged the distances carefully and made up his mind. He wouldn't die at the hand of Sir Wystan, and before the knight could react and prevent him, he turned and with a leap of faith jumped into Falls Ende. As Godwin had explained to Odo all those years ago when he had leapt into the falls to save Mellester's lord, he had tucked his arms to his sides and kept his legs straight to avoid striking a jutting rock and prayed.

For Odo, there was no room for error and his body dropped into the narrow chasm. Immense protruding boulders flashed by, missing him by a whisker.
