Chapter 61

Much to everyone's astonishment, Bishop Immers recently gifted three pounds to the renovation of Mellester's church, while speculation and idle gossip suggested he did so only to avoid a scandal that may have involved Priest Durwin Babcock, the younger. Priest Benedict couldn't care less for chin-wagging and preferred to be as far removed from the close scrutiny of Exeter's bishop as possible. As Mellester's church was currently undergoing renovations, he wanted to return to the village and ensure the House-Wright and his men were not skylarking and were delivering quality work as promised.

He'd heard much about the gregarious young herdsman who held title on Falls Ende and had yet to make his acquaintance. Immediately upon returning to Mellester, he'd look forward to delivering the pyxis to him as instructed and form his own unbiased opinion on the nature of the young man.
