Chapter 60

BOOK TWO

FALLS ENDE - SECUNDUS

Exeter, Devonshire, England 1167 A.D.

The priest slowly straightened, placed both hands against his hips and arched backwards to ease his discomfort. He closed his eyes momentarily, then opened them and refocused on Bishop Immers as the ache slowly subsided.

"Are ye sure, is this everything?" the bishop asked again as he stared at the assortment of goods laid out in orderly piles before him.

"Aye, Yer Grace." The priest sighed quietly. "All of Oswald's and Durwin's personal possessions have been removed and the rectory is now empty except for fitments."

Bishop Immers clasped both hands behind his back and slowly walked alongside the chattels removed from Mellester's church rectory. His eyes flicked from item to item, he missed nothing. "What are these?" he asked, pointing at one pile.

"They are articles I've deemed worthless and will be handed to the wretched, Yer Grace."

The bishop nodded but wasn't satisfied.
