Chapter 71

Sir William stroked his grey beard. "We need to look at the house, or what is left of it, and search thoroughly for it."

"Why do ye want the pyxis? It belongs to Herdsman Odo Read," asked the reeve. "Yer can't just come here and do as yer please. Ye'd be no better than the robbers who hurt Odo!" Petrus wasn't having a good day, and he wasn't happy with the attitude of the Templars at all.

"Forgive me, Reeve, we have been searching for the pyxis for two years, we tend to become rather obsessed with it," replied the knight commander. "May we search through the home and try to locate the pyxis or its remains?"

The reeve was about to reply when Charlotte spoke first. "Ye are welcome to look for it, as yer say, and if yer do find it, then remember, it belongs not to ye, it belongs to Odo, and he's poorly right now. Do yer understand me, milord?"

In spite of his foul mood, Petrus couldn't help but grin.

"Of course," Sir William dipped his head.
