Chapter 120

Like many knights who fought for King Henry II in France, Sir Jarin Babenberg was another wounded casualty. He suffered a severe gash in his side from a pike and was fortunate not to succumb to sepsis and die. When healthy enough to travel, Sir Jarin returned to his small fief on lands granted to him by Sir Hyde, not far from Mellester, to rest and recover. When summoned to fight for the king in Ireland, Sir Jarin was unable to heed the call, but eagerly hoped to join the king soon.

Sir Dain still suffered from a wound he received while trying to rescue Charlotte and it was doubtful he would ever retain full use of his arm. Unable to lead the mission to retrieve the reeve himself, Sir Dain asked Sir Jarin if he was well enough to command a small group of men and return the severely injured reeve back to Mellester. He informed the young knight that there was a high probability they would be attacked by outlaws during their quest.
