Chapter 121

The wagon lumbered on, men relaxed and began talking amongst themselves.

With care, Birney extracted a small clay vial. He pulled the stopper and dipped the sharp protrusion from his finger into it, then replaced the stopper and put the vial safely back in his pocket. Heedful to not scratch himself, Birney was now ready. "That is a fine horse ye have," he shouted to Odo who rode ahead of him.

Odo pulled Amica to stop and waited for the stranger to ride up.

Seeing what Odo was doing, Jagger turned away from the group and allowed the stranger to ride up alongside Odo. He then positioned himself directly behind the stranger and looked at the horse the man rode. It was a bay mare. Normal in all respects except this horse had one white sock on it right rear leg, making it distinguishable. The other three legs did not have any white fur around the fetlocks and were all uniform in colour. He'd seen such a horse in Mellester recently in stables belonging to the inn.
