Chapter 56

Sophie poured some tea into Nadia’s cup, and noticed that her friend’s hands were shaking. Since she had been kept from seeing Taneen, it seemed that her health was deteriorating: she was nervous and restless, ate little and slept even less. There were deep dark circles under her eyes, and the scales on her skin seemed oddly pale and translucent.

Karla was worried about her: she went to Sophie to ask for advice. There wasn’t much she could do, though: she had advised Nadia to rest, eat potassium-rich foods, and take a walk every day, but she was painfully aware of how it all was, at best, just a palliative measure. Nadia needed her dragon, and nothing else.

“When did you say he will be transferred?” she asked.

“I'm not sure, they haven’t actually told me anything. But Karla heard it’s going to be tomorrow morning. I think they will use one of the boats, he can’t fly long distances yet...” Nadia blinked, and a tear trickled down her cheek.
