Chapter 32

Sociopaths

I came to what must have been only moments later, head pounding, arm still hurting but an incredible heat oozing out of me. I rolled over on my back and looked up into Elle's shining eyes.

"Billy," she said.

It was all I needed to hear.

She managed to get me to my feet and moving.

"It will wear off faster if you walk." She told me.

"So, it was the weapon," I said.

She nodded. "We don't know how he got it, but he, Simone and Philip stole it and took off." She led me to the main corridor. Soldiers ran to and fro, yelling orders or following them. I peered through the dust from the shattered concrete. The three of them left quite a mess on their way out, pulling down a whole section of corridor, most notably the one leading straight to the elevator.

My father staggered out of the debris, face lighting up a bit when he saw us.

"You're all right!" He gave us both a cursory visual exam.

"Not much can hurt us, Dad."
