Being super doesn't come with a training manual.

No.3 plucked me out of my wheelchair and securely strapped me into a three point harness before I could even think to fight, not that I could have struggled much. He ignored me and left me there, carrying my folded chair out with him. I gaped, unable to breathe or think, watching him exit and approach a white-coated man who turned when No.3 spoke to him.

I knew that scientist. "Dad!"

He glanced at me and I felt a shudder of cold drive through my stomach. It was like he didn't see me at all.

The map the general provided made me laugh. They drove us around for an hour and the facility was just ten minutes away. In fact, from the look of the schematics he also provided, the two bases were connected by a tunnel. A check of said tunnel, a couple of kilometers of collapsed rubble, proved we'd be better off hitting them by air.


Which was exactly what Uni probably had in mind.


The general agreed to a half-hour head start, but that was all. He planned to hit the site with everything he had, whether we cleared up the mess or not. It didn't thrill me, but I hoped it would be all over by then anyway so I didn't argue.


I set my father down on the outskirts of the arena near an entrance. Elle landed beside me, supporting both Andre and Tosh. I took Andre from her and the four of us entered the training ground.


I'm not sure what I expected to happen, but when nothing did, I was kind of let down.
