Chapter 40

Bad Guy

I reacted too late. Reached the mouth of the tunnel too late. Saw them there, two standing, one crumpled to the earth, too late. I dove forward, body an arrow of vengeance, not pausing to think or consider as I blasted myself into Uni and drove him straight through the solid rock of the entry, through the tunnel and up into the open air. The clatter of the handgun he used to shoot my oldest friend was as loud as a cannon shot as it hit the ground.

It sounded like a death rattle.

Still holding Uni firmly in my hands, I flew us up into the training ground, dive-bombing the dirt in an effort to stay one step ahead of him. I ignored the open-mouthed stares of the general's soldiers and the attempts to take me down by the large group of black suits fighting to hold the bunker.
