Cole wishes he were dead. He feels like he is dying anyway. His lungs hurt so much he throws up sometimes after he coughs. Which makes the other pain, the pain down there, make itself known. He welcomes the ache in his lungs, mostly. So he doesn't have to feel what's been done to him inside.
Soaked in sweat, body limp, Cole has lost the will to fight or even fear the Boogeyman.
When he returns, Cole hopes he has come for him. To take him away to wherever the boys go that he doesn't want anymore. Cole thinks of his sister the way she used to be. Can even see her wavering there in front of him. Reaches out his hand to touch her.
"Emmy." His reaching fingers slide through her and it takes him a moment to realize he imagined her. He cries, softly, not caring that the Boogeyman's feet are close, pausing by his cage. Not caring the light is burning into his brain. He is sure it is over for him and he is glad.
