Chapter 100: The First Piece

Something was wrong, off, I felt it in Isis as she fled, stumbling and awkward, her footsteps unsure, her power feeling out of balance. But that didn't keep her from reaching her realm and running through, slamming the way behind her. I could have forced my way in, Chaos perfectly willing to help me make that happen, but a strong hand on my arm grasped me and turned me away from barging into Life.

Mafdel's narrowed eyes studied mine for a moment before she turned me around physically and pointed at the white door where the ancient corridor used to stand.

"Tell me," she grated between clenched teeth, "that wasn't you."

"I can't do that," I said. I turned on her, then, scowling. "Wait, you're supposed to be guarding Tulip." How had I forgotten that and not given her trouble when I found her in my realm not so long ago?

"Tulip is fine," the bounty hunter said. "My friends are watching her."
