Chapter 144: Crosspath

Our brief moment of released good humor didn't last, as good as it felt to experience it. I would have loved to linger in that sensation for as long as possible, the renewal of my energy and dedication fed by such joy. Not meant to be, and I realized I needed to fully appreciate such instances as they came in the next little while, taking them and cherishing them in the moment as much as possible, building my resilience through the trust and good faith of those I cared about.

I would have rebelled if it had been Mafdel or even Chaos who broke the precious bounds of our happy, but it ended, unfortunately, though no fault of our own, simply passing on as though the humor had lived its lifespan and couldn't sustain itself during such times as these.
