EXT. - 10th STREET ANIMAL RESCUE - NIGHT
Gerri left Jackson with the unis to clean up the last of the mess while she retreated to her car where the girls waited for her. Kinsey stood with her back to the car, arms crossed over her narrow chest, deep frown on her face. She looked oddly stern in the flashing lights of the marked cars, spinning illumination creating an eerie wash of repeating shadow over her delicate features.
Ray sat in the back seat, legs out the door, head in her hands. When she looked up at Gerri, her grief and regret triggered the detective's protective instincts no matter her irritation her friend held out on her.
"I'm so sorry," Ray said, voice breaking. "I should have told you. But it was a one-time thing, Gerri. And I had no idea she was connected to the case until after I slept with her."
Gerri sighed, resting one forearm on the roof of the car, shrugging. "It's over and done with now, Ray," she said. "Just, tell me, if there's a next time."
