"You wanted to see me Jones?" the captain said as he approached the tactical station on the bridge.
"Yes Sir," Jones answered as he looked up from the half circle of a dozen computer monitors that made up his station. "I've been reviewing the data on those ships we saw yesterday."
"What did you find out?" Roche asked with a tinge of urgency as he had been waiting for the information.
"I still haven't learned anything more about the first three, but the other two, well, they shouldn't exist."
"What do you mean?"
"The propulsion and weapons were proto-matter based. It took the computer a while to figure that out because refined proto-matter hasn't been used for over 500 years and our only reference to that use was our limited record of the Sa'larie and Serkin wars. So I compared the design of the Sa'larie ships to what we saw, and well, they look like what a modern version of Sa'larie ships might look like."
