Chapter 95: Strom

"You need to tell us what you know about it," Daniel said.

Strom nodded and coughed, a deep, wracking sound. They all flinched, partly because they knew the feeling. Fresco found himself going for the bottle of water beside the bed and helping the man to drink.

Strom took it slow and still choked on the cold of it. While he struggled to recover, Genvieve made her objections clear and public.

"We can't trust him," she said, turning in place to meet the eyes of everyone in the room. It was only then Fresco noticed it filled up with more and more kids. He caught Medley's eye as she slid in the door and hid in the background, watching. "He's a career Garbageman. Never been clean before. And not one of us."

"Was." Fresco was shocked to find himself speaking up for Strom. What the hell was wrong with him? "He's clean now, finally, for the first time since he was made one of them. He deserves to be heard."
