Didi gulps a large bite of the most delicious food she's had since leaving the Oasis and groans softly to herself as her stomach protests that newest morsel. Her grandparents smile with indulgent kindness while she helps herself to yet another serving of the sweetest, most decadent delight that's ever passed her lips.
She feels her cheeks tingle in response as Emily nods at the large slice of moist, dark yumminess that's topped off the best meal ever. "It's called chocolate cake. I'm so glad you like it."
Didi licks a small drip of it from the back of her hand and nods, knowing she's being rude and acting like a bumpkin but unable to help herself. "It's delicious." Those two words don't begin to describe her opinion about this amazing thing called chocolate.
"And rare," Solomon says, smiling. "It was your mother's favorite, too. And mine as a boy. Try as we might, the beans it comes from won't grow anywhere but on Colony One, where they originate."
