Chapter 90: Family Reunion

Didi paces her room, head down, hands clenched at the small of her back, jaw so tight her mouth goes numb from the pressure. A headache blooms behind her eyes, her chest heavy with guilt and frustration.

This is not how things were supposed to go. Her triumphant delivery of Tarvis to Petal's waiting ship was intended to reunite Didi with her mother and father, to bring her family together at last, after seventeen years of Didi thinking her mother was dead.

Instead, she stomps in her heavy, black boots back and forth from the door to her quarters, through the sitting room into her bedroom, to the closet and bathroom with its pale tiles spinning her around to clomp in the other direction. She has no idea how long she's paced, only that movement is necessary and is the only thing keeping her from completely losing her sanity.
