Chapter 46

She disobeyed Ben and Eric's orders, of course. Instead of waiting in Ben's kitchen, she watched them from the front porch, although she did have her cell phone at the ready.

"Stubborn wench," she thought she heard Eric mutter, but she couldn't really be sure. Whatever he'd said it drew an answering chuckle from Ben.

"Somebody better be planning on mopping up all that testosterone," she grumbled under her breath. "I'm sure not going to do it."

"All clear," Ben called from the upstairs landing a few moments later. The two men turned and tromped down the stairs.

"My heroes," Lori growled waspishly, although, they did seem sort of heroic, which annoyed her even more.

Eric held the nine-millimeter out, butt first, toward Ben, who shook his head. "Keep it, at least for the night. We'll all feel better."

Lori shuddered but Eric held onto the gun as he hefted his bag of clothing. "Thanks." Then he held the door for Lori and followed her up the stairs to her living room.
