Chapter 61: Call Of The Warrior

I paced my room half the night, or what I assumed was that amount of time, trying to figure out a way to escape. When I finally fell into bed and sleep, I was nowhere closer to an answer.

That's when the dreams began, a whispering voice, a call to action. I woke often, heart pounding, metal hand pressed to my chest as though I could soothe the rapid beating with my touch.

Auburdeen.

Clear in my mind, that whisper. Was I still dreaming?

There was more to the message but the voice was so quiet. I strained to make it out, to understand. Was it my brothers, perhaps? Someone on the outside trying to reach me? Desperate, I sought out the source of the contact.

And found it.

Auburdeen. Daughter/Sister/Mother/Warrior. Welcome.

I sat upright so swiftly my head spun as the voice receded, whispering falling still.

Not my brothers. Not Sassafras. Or my mother.

No, the voice came from within.
