Jennie's POV
I could feel the anger raging inside of me. Kai was just standing there like the cold and heartless person that he had become. His gaze bore deep into my eyes with no sign of remorse.
"You don't mean that right ?" I stutter. He looked like villain who had finally accomplished what he came out here for. I know Kai, he wont do this, Kai was a different story. No matter how angry and bitter I knew he was, I didn't think it would boil to this point.
Kai pulls my hand and tries to get me to stand still. "None of this would have happened if you just kept your promise of loving me for the rest of your life. You know that."
"None of this would have happened as well if you hadn't left me, Kim Jongin!" I retorted, pushing him away from me. "I just want you to fucking leave me alone once and for all!"
I ran out to the parking lot and stood behind one of the pillars as I burst into tears. I just wanted to shout and cry and maybe even throw eggs at Kai's car.
I could hear Kai's footsteps following me. I stood a few feet away from him before he could even try anything.
"Are we just going to keep on talking about the same thing over and over again?" he cries. "What will it take for you to realize that you held our future in your hands but all it took was one mistake to break it?"
"How many times am I going to have to apologize for this until you decide to move on?" I yell. "Did you actually think that doing all of this behind my back was going to fix our relationship?"
"Look, I knew there was no chance of you loving me again," he admits. Instead of anger, his eyes were now filled with tears. "I know it's stupid and selfish, but I wanted to... I just wanted to get back at Lisa."
My jaw drops in frustration. "Lisa? She did not choose for this to happen! Hell, she didn't even know you were my ex-boyfriend until she flew to New York! If you want me to pay for everything, then fine! But don't pick on someone who's innocent!"
Kai sits on the cemented pavement, his arms hanging over his folded knees. "I'm so lost. I'm not happy in New York, Jennie."
"You're not happy because you're heart is filled with bitterness," I mutter, sitting on the ground right across him. "How about Bian? Doesn't she make you happy?"
"She does," he nods, keeping his eyes on the ground.
"Isn't that enough?"
"I don't know..." he shakes his head. "I'm a mess."
"I miss you," I whisper while trying to fight back another set of tears waiting to pour down my cheeks. "I miss the person you used to be. This.... This is not you at all. I feel like I'm talking to a completely different person. I know I've hurt you, but I can't believe you allowed all the bitterness to take over who you really are."
"I don't even remember how it was any more back then..." Kai says, smiling weakly. "How I was. How you were."
"We were happy," I sniffed, looking away from his face. "We had a simple life, we didn't have the world, but we had each other."
"And it still didn't work out," Kai points out.
"Some things aren't meant to work out the way we want it to."
"I don't when it ever will," Kai sighs; looking up at the dark ceiling of the building we were in.
"It will work out when you realize what really matters," I say. "You are an amazing person, Kai. I can still confidently say that I know the real you. You are capable of having the world, and you're already so close! You don't need me. You have a successful career, a bunch of undying supporters, immense and undeniable talent - and hey, you have someone who loves you and you just probably fail to see that because you're too angry."
Kai looks up at me. "Bian?"
"I already had a feeling the moment I saw her that night in New York," I nod, smiling to myself despite the lump in my throat. "I think you just need to open your eyes and see that you actually have a chance at being genuinely happy. You just keep ruining things for yourself."
Kai smiled. For the first time in months, I felt like it was a genuine one this time.
He pushes himself off the ground and reaches out for my hand. Without taking, I take it and stand up in front of him. He brushes his hand over my cheek and tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. "Lisa is so lucky to have you, Jennie," he whispers. "I'd hate to see her break you the way I did. She's holding my world in her hands."
"You are already somebody else's world," I gaze into his deep, caramel eyes. "We had a wonderful story, Kai. Unfortunately, I think it's time to close the book and just accept the way it had ended."
A tear rolls down Kai's cheek. He leans over and I felt that he wanted to kiss me, but Lisa's loud and booming voice interrupts - not that I would have let his lips touch mine.
"Jennie!" she sternly calls my name. "Let's go."
When I look at and her right cheek was starting to swell. "Lisa? What happened?" I push myself off Kai's arms and run to Lisa. "The media had an idea about the book."
"What are you doing out here with him?" she shifts her attention to us.
"Um, I was just having a talk..." my voice trailed off.
Lisa didn't even let me finish. She walked straight up to Kai and pinned him against the wall, pointing his finger repeatedly in his chest. "That was the last straw, Jongin. You stay the hell away from us."
"Lisa, I already talked to Jennie. We're trying to be okay. I'm really sorry I just - "
"But we are not okay," Lisa grits her teeth. "And we will never will be unless you accept the fact that Jennie loves me and only me. I seriously do not want to see your fucking face anywhere near her or me again. You tried to ruin my life? Not the first time anyone has. I can let you off the hook with that, but you are never laying a finger on my girlfriend ever again."
Kai stares at Lisa, looking quite speechless.
Lisa turns her back against Kai and grabs my hand. "Let's get out of here, Jennie."
I look back at Kai who looked like he wanted to cry and throw a punch at Lisa all at the same time. "Kai..." I mumble as we parted ways.
"Let's go," Lisa repeats in a lower tone. Her grip on my arm tightened as she takes me to her car. She slams her own door shut and inserts the key into the ignition.
"I'm sorry," I blurt out.
"For what?" she says without looking at me.
"I know you feel bad because I've been talking to Kai..."
"Jennie, he's not only your ex-boyfriend who's obviously not over you yet, but he's also trying to ruin our lives. My life," Lisa snaps as she drove us out of the parking lot. "I do not understand why you keep running back to him despite everything. Can you honestly tell me that you do not have any lingering feelings for him anymore? Not even a bit?"
"I do not love him anymore," I insist. "I don't feel anything for him. I love you. I'm deeply in love with you and I know that will never change."
"Then why do you keep letting him in your life?" Lisa's voice softens. "You know he's up to no good."
I sank back into my seat and stare out the window. "I just couldn't seem to accept the fact that he turned into..."
"A monster," Lisa finishes my sentence. "A complete monster. I know she probably tells you he loves you, but trust me when I say that I know what love is like and that is nothing close to love."
The sound of my phone ringing made me perk up on my seat.
"It's Kai," I sigh.
"What the fuck?" Lisa exclaims.
"I'll just get this over with," I shook my head in frustration as I answered the phone. "Yes?"
"Jennie?" his voices blares through the line. "Jennie can you please stop the car? Can we talk one last time? I'm leaving for New York tomorrow. I don't want things to end this way. Just please talk to me."
"I already talked to you Kai, what else do you want?"
Lisa looks back and curses. "Shit! His car is right behind us! What the hell is going on, Jennie? Can't you tell him to leave us alone?"
When I glanced at the direction she was looking at, I saw a black car that was being driven by Kai. He was holding his phone to his ear with one hand while the other was on the wheel.
Lisa sped down the highway and turned right to a detour, which led to another highway with fewer cars. "Did we lose him?"
I looked back and saw that the coast was clear.
"I think he's drunk," Lisa pants, driving much slower this time. "He's obviously gone insane."
Just like magic, Kai's car appears right behind ours and starts driving quickly down the road, straight to our lane.
"He's doing this on purpose..." Lisa nervously says as she speeds away from Kai's car.
Left with no choice, Lisa turned around a 'No U-Turn' spot and headed towards the opposite lane. Kai was quick to follow, his car beeping right behind us.
"Just stop the car!" Kai yells through the phone. "I just want to talk!"
"Maybe you should just park somewhere and we can get this over with," I suggested, trying my best to be calm. This was my first time to be ever involved in a car chase and it was giving me a weird sense of adrenaline rush. Not the good kind.
"I don't trust him Jennie," Lisa shakes her head as she continues to drive away.
All of a sudden, we felt a hard bang from the rear end of the car. Kai's car just smashed into ours, pushing us all the way to the end of the slippery road.
"What the - " Lisa exclaims in panic as she tries to serve away from the cars in front of her, but unfortunately, it was too late. Our car crashes into two more vehicles in front of us; one of them was a large, cement truck.
I feel my life flash right before my eyes as my entire body moves from my seat onto the back part of the car. Everything becomes dark for a while until I start to hear loud screams and sirens surround us.
I felt the back of my neck crack in pain as I lifted my head up.
"Lisa?" I whisper as my eyelids flutters open.
I felt the scariest sense of déjà vu when I crawled up to the driver's seat, only to find Lisa's unconscious body on the ground... lying in a pool of blood - exactly how she looks like in my dreams.
