Scene of the Past

The man dodges rapidly, numbly flying out of the way, weaving through the onslaught of claws. Not once did he pull out a weapon, and not once did he have an expression of annoyance on his face.

The loud resonating booms of the skeletal claw smashing into the ground resonated through the world, sending waves of sound scattering rapidly. Lin Ke, who was watching the scene from the sideline couldn't help but be awed by the immense power and technique that was being displayed. This seemed like a scene straight out of an Action game, not fit for real life. However, Lin Ke was on this battlefield, breathing the same air, seeing the same fight, in all its glory.

Calling it amazing would be an understatement. This was the experience of a lifetime, and it made Lin Ke's blood boil.

Watching this fight made Lin Ke want that. Seeing how powerful these individuals were, to make the heaven and earth bow to them, for their fight to rip apart the landscape itself, was a mind-opening experience. It made Lin Ke want to become more powerful, so that maybe, one day, it might be him standing at the peak of the world.

"Of course, that's possible." Lily, reading his thoughts, replied. "Anything is possible, as long as you have the mindset to, and put in the effort!"

Lin Ke nods, before opening his mouth to say something. However, he was instead distracted by the scene that was unfolding before him.

From out of the corner of his eyes, down on the battlefield, Lin Ke noticed someone quite unique. He wasn't bent over, breathing heavily like the rest of the figures on the battlefield, but was instead calmly watching the fight. He wore a hood that concealed his face and was wearing a loose set of robes. In his hand, which was hidden slightly behind his back, was a sharp-tipped dagger that glinted in the red sun.

Lin Ke had a bad feeling watching the suspicious hooded man stand there, not making a move.

"Hey guys? I know you're deep in fighting but how about pay attention to this insanely sus guy down there?" Lin Ke shouted. However, it was to no avail; no one heard him. Lily had already explained that he wasn't really in this world, which meant he had no way to interact with this world. He was only along for the ride, a spectator.

The woman never relented on her attacks, throwing everything in the kitchen sink at the man.

"Dodge dodge! All you do is dodge, all you do is run away!" The woman screamed. "Try and dodge this!"

Saying that, her "界" eye pulsated, sending out waves of pressure. It stirred up the world energy, causing it to form two long, massive dragons.

Yes, dragons. Lin Ke marveled at the sight of them. Everything about the two dragons were majestic, from their scales to their wings, from their teeth to their eyes. Everything emanated an indomitable aura, and it was hard to say if they were real or fake.

The two dragons were polar opposites of each other, one with fire spewing out of its mouth, and the other with frosty air freezing the air molecules. They roared, shaking the heavens and earth.

Pale faced and quite tired from dodging, the man looked at the woman as if she was insane. "What are you doing? Why are you doing this? Couldn't we talk this out?"

"Talk it out? There's nothing to talk about! I'll never forgive you!" She screamed before pointing at him with an accusing finger. "Go!" She commands the dragons.

The dragons, heeding the command, shot through the sky, heading for that man. The man furrows his brow. Seeing the approaching twin dragons, the man couldn't help but pull out a longsword.

Swinging it in front of him, he deflects the majority of the attacks thrown at him, whilst dodging the remaining. Each time the dragons swiped at him, shot balls of extremely condensed energy, and approached him, he would defend perfectly.

"Tell me! Tell me why? Just because I wasn't back for a few months? What was so bad about that?" The man stubbornly persisted.

"You said you would be back sooner! Don't you know what happened? Don't you know the consequences of you not being there?" The woman cried hysterically, silent tears streaking down her face.

The man was bewildered. "What? What happened? What consequences?"

The winds stilled and the dragons paused their onslaught as the woman sobbed silently, reminiscing of old events.

"I… was pregnant."

The man froze, eyes wide in disbelief. He felt his vision go dark for a moment as he tried to process what she had just said. "You… you were pregnant…? But why… didn't you tell me? When was thi-" Suddenly, it struck him, and he felt his knees tremble upon the realization of the facts.

"No… nonononono…" The man muttered. "Don't tell me… that…"

The woman nodded. "He's dead! My child! MY POOR CHILD! If you were there! If you were there, you could have protected him! But now… he's gone! I was going to wait till you got back… to surprise you… but..." The woman wailed, clearly heartbroken.

"I- No What have I done…" The man stumbles back. His longsword disappears from his hands as he looks down at his palm. His eyes are wide open in disbelief, in shock, in pain, in anger, in disappointment. "I- no! How? How did he die? Who? Who did this? WHO DID THIS?" He howled.

"Who did this? Why not ask your own clan? Ask them who did this!" She cried spitefully.

The man froze, not wanting to believe it. However, due to the news coming from someone he trusted unconditionally, he had no choice but to. "They… Why would they? They supported our marriage! They gave us their blessings! Why?"

The man felt as if his world was being ripped apart. The person he loved most in the world had suffered such an injustice, and at the hands of his own clan. All the meanwhile, he had foolishly thought… believed in his family. Unable to process the information, the man stood there blankly, staring at the beautiful woman in shock.

It was then that he moved. The hooded man with the dagger. Out of the corner of Lin Ke's eyes, he saw a flash, a glint of a dagger reflecting off the light, and before Lin Ke could react, the dagger had found its way into the woman's stomach.
