The One Without Compassion

It took almost a week of recovery before Lin Ke was able to get out of bed again. However, it was only for a little while, meaning that he had to get back in bed right after. For almost the entire week, Lin Ke had had to deal with intense pain whenever he moved too much, as well as intense pain whenever he tried to circulate his True Energy. Over the week though, the pain from moving slowly faded, however, not the pain from circulating his True Energy though.

Every time he tried, he would feel as though his entire body was being ripped apart, as if he was purposefully pressing his open hand onto a hot iron.

Lin Ke had thought that the pain would go away by itself, but it still remained. At this point, Lin Ke was getting a little worried.

After two weeks of recovery, Lin Ke was already able to move around freely without any other discomforts. However, the problem was, he still couldn't drive his cultivation. That was only one of the two huge issues, but the one that concerned him the most was the latter.

Lily still was nowhere to be found. Each morning, Lin Ke woke up from his sleep praying to the lord that he would be greeted with the slightly annoying, but familiar 'Good morning.' from Lily.

However, for 2 weeks, he still hasn't heard a single thing.

At the three weeks mark, Lin Ke was fully recovered. However, he still couldn't circulate his True Energy. At this point, he was getting extremely nervous about it, so he decided to ask Lia about it.

Lia was sitting cross-legged on the other bed, cultivating silently. She had been sitting there for almost the entire day. Patiently, Lin Ke waited for her to open her eyes.

For the past few weeks, Lia had been painstakingly cultivating, trying hard to improve. In the past, she had never really put a heavy emphasis on her cultivation, but only cultivated when her grandfather forced her to. However, recents events changed her views.

Now, she cultivated nonstop, using every second of the day to the fullest. In fact, in the past weeks she had managed to advance an entire large cultivation realm. Of course, a large part of the reason for this was her uniqueness and the moon shard embedded in her body.

As Lia opened her eyes, she let out a deep sigh. The first thing she did was glance over at Lin Ke to make sure he was alright, as was her habit developed over the past few weeks.

With a quick glance over, Lia confirmed he was alright before turning her head back. Then immediately whips her head over to double take. Lin Ke was staring at her intently, with a face full of admiration and appreciation.

After the quick double take, Lia blushes a bit upon seeing Lin Ke stare at her so seriously.

Slightly bashful, Lia asks, "Wh-what? Is there something wrong?"

Lin Ke blinks, realizing he was staring at Lia. Scratching the top of his head, he says, "Oh, sorry! I just wanted to ask something and was waiting for you to finish cultivating because I didn't want to interrupt you."

"Oh… What did you want to ask?"

Lin Ke takes a deep breath before asking. "Well, the thing is… It's been three weeks and… I still can't circulate my True Energy around my body. I have no clue what's going on so I decided to ask you."

Lia, hearing what Lin Ke said, bites her lips in distress. In her head, she's trying hard to decide whether or not to tell him the truth at this time. He had just barely recovered…

Finally, she shakes her head. 'No, I have to tell him the truth… Plus, even if I cover it up now, he's just going to find out later.'

Nodding to herself, she turns to Lin Ke seriously. Looking at him dead in the eyes, Lia began.

"Lin Ke." She says, looking him dead in the eyes.

Lin Ke gets a really bad premonition… "Y-yeah?"

"You won't be able to cultivate again… Probably forever…" Lia slowly said.

Lin Ke blinks, taking a while to process what Lia had just said. The sentence echoes through his head, slowly being digested.

"N-never… C-c-cultivate… again? Lin Ke repeats. His eyes widens in shock as he processed the information. "W-what…?"

Lia looks at his sympathetically. "Yeah… The doctor I brought you to said that there was a large chance your meridians would never heal, meaning that you're crippled for life."

Lin Ke feels as if something just broke, a piece of thin glass within him, shattering. All he could think of was how unfair, how unlucky, how sad this whole situation was.

Just when he thought he would be able to have another chance in this new world… Just when he thought that he would be able to live out a fantasy… Just when he thought he could be useful… Now… NOW?

What's left for him? There's nothing… Nothing left for him. In this cruel world where cultivation means everything… In this cold world where the phrase, "Survival of the fittest" reigned supreme… In this unforgiving world with so many similarities to his last, but with him missing the crucial thing needed to survive.

In the end… It was all just a huge prank "God" played on him… Or… That was what Lin Ke thought… As that seed of doubt germinated in his mind.. It grew.

Angered and confused, Lin Ke needed to find someone to pin the blame on. Of course, the most convenient "person" to pin it on was the one who caused his death… The one who spun a wheel to decide his fate… The one who didn't give a shit about the lives of the ants he created… The one without compassion… the one who held the strands of fate… the so called "God".

"It's all your fault!" Lin Ke muttered. "It's all your damn fault! If it weren't for you… if it weren't for you… I wouldn't be here… If it weren't for you… I wouldn't have had to suffer this pain… If it weren't for you!!!!"

It had to be known, this wasn't just a thought that sprung up now. In fact, it had been flourishing in the back of his mind, in the cold darkness, waiting for it's time to come. Ever since Lin Ke had arrived in this world, he had always blamed this so-called "God" for his death. He blamed this "God" for not earnestly apologizing, for thinking his life as just a worthless toy to pass his time with.

Most of all, he hated this "God" for his insincerity. Despite Lily saying that this "God" was "sorry" about what had happened, this "God" never did approach him to apologize to him face-to-face.

Finally, Lin Ke's rage bubbled over, and nothing within him snapped.

Who knows when… the scene changed. It was no longer a white room with two beds. It was no longer Lin Ke sitting on one of them facing Lia. It was no longer the confined air of the room.

Instead, he stood in the middle of a giant, grand hall, facing a man who was sitting atop a throne. He wore a set of regal robes made from fine fur and silk, with many intricate designs running across the fabric. His long hair was tied up into a neat hair bun, and his face was extremely smooth. His face was extremely soft, making him look like a delicate young man.

This man exuded an aura unlike anything Lin Ke had ever felt before. It wasn't an aura that made one feel extreme pressure, but an aura that made it near impossible to deny any requests the person asked for.

From Lin Ke's speculation, this man was probably the "God".

And beside this man, in a metal cage set on the ground, was the person Lin Ke had been looking for.

Finally, after three weeks, Lin Ke had found Lily.
