Chapter 19

So in this world nineteen is a minor and now that he mentioned that he had to a year to drink beer means that at the age of twenty the people here become adults.

"So make it just a normal drink and a beer, please." I turn and place my order to the waitress.

"Okay, sir. I will be back with your order right away." She runs off at full speed after saying that.

I start walking to my table, "Come on, Laraye. Have a seat." I invite him to take a seat and have a drink.

"Okay…" he did not refuse.

"So, you are nineteen, right?" I ask. I do so because of the fact that earlier he said that he was nineteen and yet was a minor but he had told me that he was an adventurer and even at the first time we met, when I came into this world, he was on an adventure quest. I wanted to know how he had become an adventurer despite being a minor.

"Yes,sir I am most certainly nineteen years old. Why do you ask?" He asks me a question.

"Well I wanted to clarify something in mined. Anyway, how are you adventuring at such a young age?" I try to be as straightforward as I possibly can at this moment.

"Well it is not that hard since they do not go and give difficult and dangerous quests to minor adventurers." He tries to continue but I stop him.

"Wait a moment. Who is 'they'?" He mentioned that this 'they' are the ones giving him assignments or quests to be exact.

I would like to know who are these people.

"You do not know? For a traveller I thought you would know this by now but I guess it is not that important when it comes to travelling.

Well I will explain nonetheless, the 'they' that I mentioned are the people behind the counters at the guild." He thoroughly explains so that it is easy for me to understand.

"So you go up there and they give you quests?" I need to get information on how to take up quests, because it might come in handy.

"No you can't. There are requirements for becoming an adventurer, otherwise everyone would have tried to take up quests." He says.

"But… is it not good that more people can try out adventuring?" I am confused by the fact that they do not allow anyone to just go up and take quests.

"It might be good in some ways but they are of few in number," he continues," whereas there are quite a lot reasons of why it is bad.

It is just that the job of adventurers is a risky and dangerous job to be undertaking and that is why parents of many children do not allow their kids to become an adventurer.

There are monsters and other creatures that you have to fight through to get to the end.

The chance of danger just increases by the difficulty you pick and that is why they do not give difficult quests for minors, unless they have a guardian with them to accompany them across the quest and who is above the age of twenty."

That was one hell of an explanation. I just learned stuff that would have taken me some days, in just one go.

"That is why," oh he is not done,"I do not take difficult quests because I can't. But people can join in other ways, I myself joined by taking up an exam from school to get qualified for this. Normally it would have taken people just about two years to get that qualification but I got it in first try and I was seventeen the time."

.... Okay, now he is done.

So he got the job qualification at the age of seventeen and he said that he got it in his first try, that means that at the age of seventeen people can go up and take the qualification exam for becoming an adventurer, at least that is what I can understand.

"You said that there are other ways, right? I mean to join the guild." I wanted to see if I could join.

It would be useful. It really would.

"Yes, there are other ways to do so.

You can take the exams or you could complete several small quests and get the qualification or you could pay the money and get in or you could earn some reputation and get in by them accepting you as an adventurer."

So these are the other ways by which I can get into the guild.

"How much would I need to pay if I had to use money to get in?" I ask.

"I am not certain but it should be about ten to twenty gold coins or something. I do not quite remember, sorry." He apologizes.

"It's okay, no need to apologize." I reply, "Now about gaining reputation..

"How do I go on about getting reputation?" I ask the question to Laraye.

"Well you could participate in tournaments, but there are a lot of problems with that decision." He seems troubled.

"Why- oh" my question is interrupted mid sentence by the waitress.

"Here is your order for another round of beer and this is a choc shake that we picked on your behalf as a normal drink." She says that while she places the drinks on the table before us.

"Is there anything else you want? Maybe something to eat?" She asks.

"No, just this beer is fine. I could not eat anymore food. Thanks for the service and please give my compliments to the chef if possible." I really loved the food here, it is way better than any of the food I had on earth, even better than the luxurious cuisines.

I would like to know what else tastes better but I will do that next time.

"Oooh… it is very much possible, sir." She seems quite surprised out of no reason, "The cost of the drinks are on the house, sir. Enjoy and let me know if you need anything else."

"Wait- but I can pay-..." I try to stop her from making this drinks be on the house but she dashes off before I can say that I would have paid.

"Haaa" I sigh. The people of this lodge is just too nice I say, too nice.

"Do not worry, sir. It is on the house." The lad says to me.

"Well, that indirectly does mean that you are paying for the drinks right?" I ask him. Well his family does own the place so it is his place technically.

"Yeah, if you look at it like that." He laughs.

"I can't believe I am making a kid pay for my meal." I put my hand over my face and laugh a little.

"It is okay, sir. You have saved me from those big idiots, so I am grateful for that. And the free meal is included in the thank you." He says.

"Well drink up then." I lift up my beer glass and go for a cheers.

*Cling* We smack our glasses and some of the beer spills out but it does not make any kind of mess.

*Glug, glug, glug* I drink fast. For some reason I feel quite a lot dehydrated than usual. Maybe it is the condition of this world, my body might be adjusting itself to the likes of this world. I already finished half the glass.

"Haaaa…. That is one hell of a delicious beer." I say as I take a tissue and wipe my mouth slightly with it.

"Glad that you enjoy it." He says while taking sips of the drink he had got, choc shake was it? It has a brownish colour, with crunchy toppings and it seems to be made using milk too.

It definitely is chocolate shake. No doubt about it.

So chocolate is called choc here? That is just a guess though. But it seems quite believable.

"Do you like the drink you got?" I ask him.

"Hmmm… pardon me?" It seems that he did not hear what I just said. The crowd started being loud not too long ago. It seems that they were afraid to make noises because of the Chaedo guy's presence in the place.

"I asked if you are enjoying the drink you got?"

"Oh this? Yeah, I am quite enjoying this. I really enjoy this drink because this is my favourite flavour." He seems to be delighted to be drinking the drink.

"Earlier you were talking about getting reputation by entering tournaments but you mentioned that it was a difficult decision and will have lot of problems. Why will there be problems?" I want to know if I can enter the tournament.

Not that I will enter. I do not know what kind of powers the people here have, so not jumping into a freaking tournament would be the moral decision right now.

"Aaa yes I did say that and yes there will some problems" he continues,

"First of all, the tournament is not in the next couple of months. Next tournament is in six months from now, it would be too late if you were planning on getting into the guild right away.

Second, not all participants get direct entry to the guild. Only the top twenty and some exceptional talents get the direct entry. To even get into the top twenty, you need to go through several qualifiers."

"Wow…" I am really surprised, "that sounds like a real hassle." I never thought it was that hard.

"It is because people want the price money and rewards," he further explains,

"some of them train a lot to beat every opponent they go against and some of them cheat their way to the top."

"Is cheating allowed? Will they not get disqualified?" I ask.

*Shakes head* he denies,"No they will not be disqualified. As long as they stay within the rules they are able to do whatever they want." He seems to be pissed at his own words. He really is angry that people cheat, huh.
