Secret

"Uncle do you recall a woman named Madilyn?" She asked, twirling a pen in her hand. The lights in the room were slightly dimmed casting a light shadow on half of her face, her gold eyes shown brightly making her look out of this world.

"Madilyn?" He asked, confusion and suspicion evident in his voice.

"Mm. Tall, Caucasian with brown hair and blue-eyes." She said, her eyes squinted at her Uncle. Something told her he knew this woman.

The air became incredibly heavy, only the sounds of her computer monitor were heard.

The moment the name Madilyn left her lips Uncle Chen felt like the sky had fallen. It suddenly became difficult to breathe, alarms started going off in his head. A deep-seated fear that had been buried so long ago began to stir, slowly creeping up from the pit of his stomach spreading throughout his body.

Fear.

He began feeling afraid. Afraid she knew something she shouldn't. It was a truth he never wished for her to know. It would destroy her. He couldn't afford for her to know, not in this lifetime.

Clearing his throat, he furrowed his thick eyebrows and pretended to think.

"It doesn't ring a bell. Why do you ask?" he asked.

A glint flashed within her eyes.

"She seems to be connected to him. There seems to be a history between them." She said lightly.

"I don't remember this name but I do recall hearing about a girl who followed him around when he was a child."

Is that so? That was interesting. It seemed like she needed to do some digging.

"Makes sense. The familiarity between them was not just of old friends." She said, a light smile graced her lips. Her eyes had a twinkle in them.

This was good news. She was very interested in knowing how deep their relationship was, she needed to know what advantages she could take from it.

A glitter of excitement flashed in her eyes before it disappeared like it was never there.

After leaving her office Uncle Chen walked back to his quarters at the other side of the compound. Stepping inside his room, he walked to his study desk and took a seat.

Unlocking the bottom drawer with his thumbprint. he reached inside and pulled out a black box. The box was made of black marble and had the characters of the Chen family name engraved in gold. Inside were old documents, and a small white leather box. At the bottom of the pile of documents he pulled out an old photo.

Grief and sorrow were visible in his face, his hands trembled slightly as he held the yellowed photo. The photo pictured two young twin girls with pig-tails wearing white princess dresses. The girls were smiling so cheerfully it made you want to smile as well.

However, for him this photo held a thousand secrets most of which pained his cold heart. His thumb gently rubbed the corners of the picture. Those black eyes slightly reddened with heartache.

"Brother promises to take your secrets to my grave." He promised in a grief filled voice. A small tear escaped the corner of his eye falling on the surface of his black desk.

He swore on his life that he would do everything in his power to keep those secrets hidden forever. They could never come to light.
