Chapter Five

We ended up at a beach after a while. After swimming for about thirty minutes, I had to get out because I was weak. I was trying to hurry to the shore, but a wave hit the back of my legs and made me collapse. Hands grabbed me by the waist and pulled me up into their arms as my vision darkened. I caught a glimpse to see Mykel. I wasn't out long because I could hear yelling when I woke up.

"Oh my god! Is she okay?" A woman shouted. "Lifeguard! A girl fainted!"

"I'm okay." I told her kind of quietly. I shielded my face from the sun. Mykel was still holding me, but he was on his knees. He checked my pulse, ignoring the woman.

"What happened?" Two lifeguards approached us.

"I'm fine." I repeated, sitting up. My head spun so I took a deep breath.

"Hey! Give them some space!" Luna yelled. "She's narcoleptic, now back off!" She came to my side.

"Are you okay?" She checked my pulse after Mykel moved his hand.

"Yeah. Mykel caught me just in time." I smiled slightly as he handed me a bottle of water. I sipped slowly.

"Hey, isn't that Amy and Robert Vienna's daughter?" One guard questioned the other.

"That's me." I nodded. "Don't tell anyone."

"You can't go back into the water. We don't want to be sued." The lifeguard replied before they both walked away. I sat next to Mykel for a while before we decided to walk the beach and Luna went to go get food. I gave her money from my wallet so she didn't have to spend what little money she had.

"Will your parents be okay with us?" Mykel looked to the ground as he walked. I glanced up at him.

"Us?" I questioned.

"Did I miss something? When did we become official?" I thought.

"I know how you feel about me and how I feel about you." He replied. I nodded, thinking.

"They'll have to be. I mean my mother just wants me to find my other half. I don't know about my father." I shrugged. "They'll just have to be okay with it."

"Why's that?" He looked up to me. I showed him my wrist. "I thought that was a myth." His hazel eyes glinted in the sunlight and I could see that he didn't believe what he just said.

"No. All girls get them at sixteen." I smiled.

"So... Luna has one?"

"She does. She never said if she found them, but after one of her close friends died, her wrist only had a big X on it." I looked down to the sand sadly. After a moment I smiled then took off running.

"Hey! Where are you going?!" He ran after me, making me laugh. It was hard to run in sand. I just kicked up the sand as I tried to run faster. He wrapped his arms around me, lifting me off the ground. "Got you." He huffed in my ear as I squealed. When he set me down, I turned in his arms and kissed him. He picked me up again and I automatically placed my legs around his waist. His hands moved so that he held me by the waist, his muscular arms bulging around me.

"WOOO!" Luna yelled, holding up food. "You're so cute!" I got down quickly, embarrassed.

"Awe! Why'd you stop?" She handed us each a bag with a carryout box inside. "You both were really feeling it."

"Oh my god, Luna." I laughed, walking away. We found a spot to eat then walked around the town we were in. We arrived at our hotel late and Luna fell asleep quickly after her shower. I only sat in my bed in a t-shirt and shorts. I was thinking about Mykel and staring at the open door that joined our rooms. I pictured his tanned skin at the beach, watching me carefully. He never took his shirt off, so I didn't know what he looked like underneath it. I imagined, though. I imagined his bare chest and muscles as he stood ankle deep in the salty water as his hazel eyes stared at my pale body. I inhaled deeply, my body screaming at the thoughts.

"I wonder if he's asleep." I thought as I bit my thumbnail. "No, Jasper. Go to sleep. Definitely do not go into his room." I groaned, laying down and curling up into my blanket. Even though I wanted to sleep, my mind tortured me with thoughts of how it would feel if Mykel's hands were on me. I reminded myself that I was a virgin and would probably always be because of my condition.

"He hasn't told me how he feels about me. I know we've kissed, but there's no way that he loves me." I thought. I gazed over at Luna, who snored softly on the other bed. I shifted so that I laid on my back before returning my gaze to the door that lead into Mykel's room. "I wonder if he is laying awake in his bed, too. Maybe I could just go in there and check on him. No, Jasper. You would stay in there and possibly make a mistake. Go to sleep." I rolled so that my back was towards the door and grabbed a pillow to hold while I slept.

"Girl, just go in there." Luna yawned. "You know you want to."

"Go back to sleep, Luna." I closed my eyes, trying to convince myself to go to sleep. She stopped talking and fell asleep again. I was jealous of how easily she fell asleep. After a few minutes, my body relaxed and I fell asleep. I dreamt of Mykel. His body, his eyes, his touch, his smell. It was like an obsession that I didn't want to admit. I felt that if I admitted how I felt then it would be too real and I would run away. I wanted to cherish every moment with him and not be afraid.
