Chapter Twelve

Luna had too much fun pushing me up and down the halls. Mykel followed us even when Luna would run down the hall. She pushed me towards our lockers and opened hers. She kept her text books in her locker because she didn't want her bag to be heavy. I watched her glace to her wrist then look around. I followed her gaze to a transfer that looked lost. She strangely looked like Luna's prior soulmate except for the fact that her hair was a fire red. Luna shivered as she stared at her.

"Well, are you going to go talk to her?" I questioned Luna. She looked down at me as if I was crazy.

"Talk to the transfer student that looks almost exactly like Lily?" She scoffed at me. "You must be out of your mind."

"You'll have to eventually. Might as well be the first one to do it, right?" I turned my wheelchair to my locker and opened it. I placed a notebook in my lap and checked my textbooks to make sure that they were still there. Luna didn't say anything. She just stared at the new student as if it would solve everything. When I turned back, I could see the student glancing over at us every once in a while. She was talking to a teacher. Luna took a deep breath before walking over to the student. I could feel a smile creeping over my face as I watched, proud of Luna for taking initiative. I watched Luna rub the back of her neck and gaze back at me as she spoke until the first bell rang. She looked like when she had a crush on a guy in middle school and she was too nervous to just say it. When the first bell rang, Luna brought the new student over to Mykel and I.

"Uh.... She has most of the same classes as us so I told her that she can just stick with us." Luna rubbed her neck again, avoiding eye contact with me. She knew that I would tell her that she looked like she got caught flirting with someone that was way older than her.

"Okay." I smiled. "Hi, my name is Jasper." I offered the new student a hand.

"Oh! I am Kaelyn McKenzie." She took my hand and shook it. She had a strong Scottish accent that peeked my interest.

"If you don't mind me asking, are you from Scotland?" I tilted my head, studying her. She had piercing blue eyes that were just stunning. They were as beautiful as crystal clear, blue, ocean water.

"Aye." She blushed, making her pale skin pink. "Is it obvious?"

"I think anyone can spot your beauty from miles away." I smirked. I loved the freckles that covered her face and the dimples in her cheeks when she smiled. She looked behind me to Mykel. She seemed almost afraid of him. "That is my soulmate. And my bodyguard. His name is Mykel and even though he looks intimidating, he is the biggest teddy bear you will ever meet."

"Bodyguard?" She looked back to me. "Because of the shooting?"

"Jas has narcolepsy and cataplexy. She faints and people will take advantage of her if she isn't protected." Luna explained.

"Aye." She nodded, seeming interested.

"We better get to class before we are late." I told them. Luna began to push my wheelchair down the hall, Mykel walking behind us and Kaelyn walking next to us. When we got into class, we went to our seats and Kaelyn went to the teacher.

"Um.... You can be in Luna's and Jasper's group." The teacher said as Jacob turned around in his seat. Our eyes met and he seemed to flinch at my glare.

"It's too early for you to be causing problems." I spoke in a low voice.

"No, no. No problems." He replied. "I just wanted to thank Mykel for saving the school." I tilted my head.

"The shooter, your last bodyguard, looked straight at me and pointed the gun. Through the door when it opened. Mykel jumped in front of me and took the bullet." Jacob looked around, trying to stay out of trouble. "So, I wanted to say thank you." I nodded.

"I will tell him after class." I tried not to show any emotion to his words. My expression seemed angry even for myself. Jacob waited a moment before turning to face the rest of the class. Kaelyn sat next to Luna where the empty seat was and we waited for our assignment. When lunch time came, Luna groaned.

"School is such a waste of time. I could be out enjoying the world and traveling." She laid her head on the table as I ate my food.

"No you couldn't. You're broke." I raised an eyebrow, wondering how she thought she could travel the world.

"Yes, but maybe my rich friend could send me off to some remote island." She peeked up at me.

"Like Hawaii?" I smirked.

"Yes! Send me back to Hawaii!" She sat up, seeing Kaelyn smiling at her. "What?"

"You would enjoy Scotland. It is full of trees and waterfalls and the most beautiful scenery." Kaelyn beamed. Luna looked behind her where there were mountains and a volcano in the distance then looked back to her.

"Like here?"

"Aye. I am reminded very much of Scotland." She nodded, happily. Luna shook her head.

"I want to see the ocean again. Fish, sharks, waves. The sun blaring down on me." Luna looked up to the sky. It was cloudy so the sun couldn't be seen. "Not depressing clouds."

"Like an aquarium?" Kaelyn tilted her head. I could see that she was teasing Luna and it made me snicker.

"You are testing my limits, new girl." Luna frowned. Kaelyn just bit into a baby carrot. I was happy to see that they got along. My heart fluttered with thoughts of their future together. I stood slowly, forgetting that I couldn't walk.

"I have to use the bathroom." I stated. My arm went numb almost immediately.

"Why did you stand up? I can just push your wheelchair to the bathroom." Mykel questioned as Luna looked at me weird.

"Good question." My words seemed to slur as I reached for the wheelchair. It was too late, though, and I collapsed into his arms.
