Lost

The forest wasn't dense. He could see far away through the trees, but he only saw more and more of them and some bushes. Getting tired, hungry, and thirsty, he started to look for berries, or something edible.

After 3 hours of walking and searching, he found some, that looked like Strawberry. He looked at it, then picked it up and touched it. An information window appeared, which looked like the ability window.

Strawberry?

A berry that looks, smells, and feels like strawberry. Though you are not sure, if it is one or not.

'What is this explanation? It's obvious I don't know what it is! That's why I wanted this damn system to help me.'

He tasted a little bit of the berry and it turned out. It was indeed strawberry. With a frustrated look he started to eat more and more of it, until felt like it was enough. Still thirsty and hungry, but at least he took a break so he continued forward.

While walking he tried to look at more stuff from the "system", which showed him the stats and the information, but nothing new happened. He could only look at the stats and common information about objects. The information wasn't even good. They only consisted of his knowledge, so it didn't say anything new about anything.

After a few more hours of walking, the sun reached the middle of the sky. He took one more break when he heard something, he did not want to. It sounded like a group of dogs were walking through leaves. Wolfs.

'This is not good! If they try to catch me I'm done.'

He stood up slowly and looked around. Saw 2 wolves coming from the same direction he came from. They were sniffing around.

'Looks like they are following my scent.'

He started to walk slowly, trying to not make the wolves notice his presence. But after a few steps, the two wolves looked at him and one of them howled.

'I'm done!'

He ran as fast as he could, searching for a tree to climb, but it wasn't easy. The persecutors were running after him, but they did not shorten the distance, just followed him.

'Are they waiting for more of them to come? Or maybe they want me to tire out? This is definitely not a good position!'

Running forward he heard more and more wolves behind him. Until one of them started to come closer. Then there was the opportunity. One of the tree's branches seemed low enough for him to climb up. He jumped and grabbed on, but one of the wolves grabbed on his shoe.

"Urgh! This can't be! I'm so close!"

He kicked the wolf with his other leg, but it actually made the wolf angrier and it bit on even harder. Then tried to take off his shoe. It only took a few seconds to take it off, but it felt like an eternity for him. Meanwhile, another wolf tried to grab his other feet unsuccessfully. After taking off his shoe, he climbed up.

'It was too close. Just a wrong move and I'm done. My leg hurts, but looks like the wolf did not bite through the shoe. I'm so happy, that I always wear leather shoes.'

Looking down on the wolves, the one who grabbed the shoe was chewing on it. The others tried to jump up and catch him for a little while, but they weren't successful. He climbed even higher so that there was no chance for them to catch him.

'Looking at them, they look like they did not eat for a while. They are all bone and skin.'

The wolves sat down at the base of the tree and were waiting.

'They won't leave without me. There is no chance for me to survive.'

He just sat there waiting for something to happen. The wolves looked like they got bored of waiting and left.

'Hahaha! They think I'm stupid! Of course I won't go down! What do they take me for? A stupid rabbit? It is obvious they are waiting for me from further away. It is such an obvious hunting technique that I will never fall for it!'

He waited on the tree until night, then he slept on the tree. In the morning when he woke up, almost fell from the tree. Then looked around again.

'I don't think they left. Wolves are usually persistent. Also if they are hungry, why would they leave the prey to search for another one? Also, it doesn't look like there are many prey they can hunt if they are so emaciated.'

The day went by until afternoon. The wolves were whining and then ran back from the way where he headed to the way they came from.

'Hah! I knew it!'

Then he heard voices, like people talking, but did not understand the language. He did not want to get off the tree in case they were hostile. After a minute he blessed his cleverness. A group of 5 small green disgusting people with sharp ears, wearing leather armor and speares showed up.

'Goblins? It doesn't look good! I hope they won't notice me!'

The goblins stopped under the tree.

'For god's sake! Don't look up!'

They started to look around. They searched for something. After a while, they left, without looking up.

'I'm lucky!'

He relaxed for the moment until he realized he was between goblin and wolf territory.

'If I go forward, I have to face the traps and hordes of goblins. If I go back, I have to face the wolves.'

He was thinking about it, while he was carefully coming down from the tree. Then looked at the remains of his shoe.

'It served me well. Saved my leg and life! Rest in pieces!'

Then decided to go toward the goblin's territory. The goblins make good traps and they are dangerous in groups, but easier to be handled than wolves and he knows that. It is easier to hide from goblins because they can't smell you.

After walking for a few hours the forest's scenery changed. From the lively trees into dead and dried-out ones.

'Where am I?'
