4. DESCENT

"I'm Salus, and this is Ancora. Nice to meet you. Thank you for saving us."

Fuga had a little question in mind after seeing the physical resemblance of two unwanted people.

"By the way, who told both of you to go here under no permission? Haven't you noticed the big sign?" Fuga asked.

"Big sign? Ancora and I noticed nothing, but we did see a broken oak wood at the side of the tangled ropes." Salus answered.

"We tried to look for oak woods in our surroundings, but found none, except this beautiful crystal." Ancora answered too. She shows the crystal to Fuga.

"That crystal. I remember it all now." Fuga said.

"The crystal you have is one of the rarest gems in Praeterei. I forgot the name, but it was a crystal of one of the strongest and most powerful people in the kingdom. I think the crystal belongs to Amondi Dodec." Fuga continued.

Fuga had a thought in mind of how they got this crystal. He thought that maybe it was just there for a long time, or maybe it's the offer.

"Apparently, I am interested that you have a rare gem. If you temporarily hand it over to me I can let you pass. Sounds good?" Fuga asked.

"Yes." Ancora and Salus answered.

Ancora and Salus crossed the dark, creepy passageway guided by Fuga.

"Where are you taking us?" Ancora asked.

"You're a spirit, right? Don't you know where this leads you too?" Fuga answered.

Ancora answers. "Don't you tell me this is... Is this the—"

"Yes, welcome to the Underground Passage." Fuga interrupts her answer.

"Ancora, what's the Underground Passage?" Salus asked.

"This passage was made 200 years ago because of a war that occured in Praeterei. Originally there were three kingdoms: Jesmat, Beuyo, and Ferion." Ancora answered.

"The three kingdoms sent death threats to each other and caused a large commotion. The king of Ferion and the queen of Jesmat decided to form one large kingdom, which is now Praeterei." Fuga also answered.

"Wait, hold on. Fuga and Ancora are spirits, right? Just what exactly is a spirit?" Salus asked again.

"A Spirit is an alter ego of a dead person. We can never return to the real world. A Summoned, like you, are like spirits but have the opportunity to escape in a limited time." Ancora responded.

"Here we are now. The end of the Underground Passage." Fuga mentioned.

The three have reached the end. The passage is closed and can't be returned back.

"This is the end? Is this serious? Why are we under the lake, and why do I feel like gravity is inverted?" Salus said.

"Welcome to Zalanti. Your first survival event. This place is just the prep room. The true challenge happens as you go forward." Ancora and Fuga said at the same time.

"WHAT?" Salus, being unprepared, was shocked.

"Why are you surprised, Salus? No one said escaping Praeterei is easy." Ancora said.

"This is just the beginning, or maybe far from the true beginning. This is natural in Praeterei; don't worry." Fuga talked.

"She's the alter ego of Evadere Esurio, right? Just as I expected from a bratty child actress." Fuga thought in her mind. "Wait, wasn't she an illegal lab monkey before?"
