A Rare Sight

Besides, it is not as if they will be fine after every single life and death battles. If that happens, that would result in being overpowered.

As usual, the two of them take turns on being the lookout for the night. There were no nearby caves nor trees that have thick branches, so they found quite the hidden area. They were supposed to put a tent but Xiao Yan said she will just sleep beside Mu Yue, leaning on her shoulders with a tree trunk on their backs.

They felt safe when they were near each other. Although being like this will prohibit Mu Yue from looking at what's behind them, she can just sense the surroundings with her spiritual energy. It was tiring than just looking around but it was also a good practice.

Mu Yue hummed the lullaby she usually sings. She never knew where she got it from.

She then thought of what she saw when she looked at her consciousness. She wanted to check her sword and called it out back and forth to see if she could do it without any problems as she might need it while fighting. By doing so, she notices some changes in the jade she had on her consciousness. Compared to its dullness in the past, it now has a little shine. Its color of dark green is now more noticeable after her advancement. Since they were currently in a forest, she decided that she would check it only if they went back to the school. It will do no good for her to be distracted.

Halfway through the night, Mu Yue woke Xiao Yan up to change shifts. Different from what Xiao Yan did, Mu Yue chose to lie on the floor as she uses Xiao Yan's lap as pillows.

"Sleep well, Mu Yue."

"Mhm"

Mu Yue slept while Xiao Yan strokes her hair. The night was silent and one might think that they are safe. But to those with knowledge, one should fear silence than fear noise.

If it's silent, you will never know when and where you will get attacked. At least if it is noisy, you can deduce where an attack will come or at least if something that is making the sound is near.

As the sun rises, its sunlight entered the forest and touched the ground through the gaps in the trees' leaves. A sunray landed on Mu Yue's eye, waking her up from her sleep.

"Good morning, did you get a night of good sleep, Mu Yue?"

Mu Yue rubbed her eyes and answered, "Yes, did something happen while I was asleep?"

Mu Yue then stood up, which allow Xiao Yan to stretch her legs. Xiao Yan then answered, "Nothing happened. It was a peaceful night."

After eating, the two of them continued their hunt. The forest was big that it was rare to find other cultivators. And even if they see them, Mu Yue and Xiao Yan will try their best to avoid them. Strangers should not be trusted, more so in the wild. Crimes can easily be covered up as traces will disappear over time. Another thing was told by a wise man, "There would be no witnesses if they are all dead."

That is true. People die when they are killed and it was what criminals do best. Deadmen tell no tales. A lot of stories telling such things that served as a warning to others.

Luckily or unfortunately, the two of them met with such a group. There was no time to hide as both of the groups quickly saw each other.

The group that the two girls met consist of men that had masks that covered their nose and mouth.

"Hehe, they did not even bother disguising themselves. Their clothing screams 'We are bandits!' to those who see them. Tsk tsk.... amateurs."

Mu Yue glanced at Xiao Yan when she heard it. Xiao Yan just smiled, which made Mu Yue think that Xiao Yan perhaps had a connection to the word 'bandits'.

"Hm? Two little girls in the middle of the forest... Just give us your storage rings and we will leave you alone." A man with a scar said. He looked intimidating but what he said made him look like a saint among bandits.

"Huh?! What the hell. We can have f-" A subordinate had a sword placed on his neck before he finishes speaking.

"Defy me and die, understood?"

"Y-yes!"

Xiao Yan looked at them in amusement. She then muttered, "Bandits with morals? Now that's rare."
