I WANT TO SEE HER

He opened his eyes after three hours long sleep, the memory of the accident still lingered on his mind, he caused all this. He caused that accident….if only he listened to her. They won't be in the hospital. He ended up putting her life in danger.

Speaking of Jane, he wondered where she was. He didn't see her in his ward although his ward is big enough to contain two beds. He tried to rise up but couldn't, the pain in his body didn't let him, he laid back when he heard a sweet voice.

"Lie back son, you're have not recovered fully." He looked over his shoulder and saw his Mom sitting beside him on the bed, his father and younger brother Vincent were sitting on a couch.

"Bro, you're awake." Vincent smiled and rushed to him, attempting to hug him but their Mom stopped him. "You shouldn't do that, he's not well."

Vincent withdrew but stood beside him. "Bro, you don't know how happy I am, seeing you awake. I thought I lost you but I'm happy you're alive." Chris gave him a weak forced smile.

He tried to get up again but his Mom stopped him. "You shouldn't try getting up, you are not well. Please don't stress yourself, you should rest."

"How did I get here?" He asked, looking from his Mom to his father.

"A good Samaritan brought you here and we got a call with your number from this hospital saying you were involved in an accident. We rushed immediately, it's even in the news, all over the net."

"Where is Jane?" He asked, not really interested in his Mom's explanation on how he got here. 'What happened to her?" His voice was really more of a whisper that his Mom could hardly hear what he asked but she guessed he asked about Jane.

His Mom looked away from him to anything in his ward, she suddenly grew silent. He noticed his Mom's eyes grow distant and he knew she was trying to find the right words to say. But her silence was killing him, why wouldn't she speak up?

"Talk to me, any of you?" He continued to question, looking expectantly at them. "Why are you not speaking up, where is Jane? Is she okay? Tell me she's okay…"

"Son, calm down." His father spoke up. "She's in this hospital, both of you were rushed here but the doctor won't let us or her parents meet her. "

"I want to see her." Chris prompted with impatient in his voice. "I want to know how she's doing, I'm the reason she's in this situation. I won't forgive myself if anything should happen to her."

"But the doctor won't let us see her and you're not in good condition to see her either, you're still unwell." His father said with a cool demeanor.

"Don't you see I'm the reason she's here." He said, closing his eyes for a minute and reopening them. "I want to know how she's doing, to know if she's fine. I really want to see her."

"Son it's not in our power to do that." His father inserted. "The doctor should be the one to do that."

"Jane is fine, you shouldn't worry." Vincent prompted with a smile on his face. "You shouldn't worry too much. She perfectly fine."

"No, I won't calm down if I don't see her." Chris insisted, not convinced by his words. "My heart won't be at rest if I don't see her and why won't the doctor let any of you see her?" He asked rhetorically. "Something tells me something is wrong somewhere."

"Son, we don't know because the doctor won't let us see her." His Mom interjected. "But he did say she's in a critical condition and was rushed to the emergency room. Her case is more worse than yours."

He closed his eyes once more hearing the words of his Mother, he tightened them as emotions washed through him, he felt a fleeting sharp pain in his heart. What if she ends up loosing her life? He won't get to see her again. What has he done, what has he done to her? Because of his stubbornness, he ended up ruining her life. He was trying to make her understand that one has the right to look down on the woman he wants to marry but he ended making it worse.

If he had known it would result to this, he would have listened to her but the milk has already been spilled and there's no remedy for that.

"I still want to see her, please take me to her." He pleaded, he really wants to see the state she's in. Really know what has become of her after the accident, he hoped she's not badly injured but judging from what his Mom said. He dreaded for the worst.

"But where are her parents and sister?" He asked.

"They are outside the emergency room, the doctor won't let see their daughter." His Mom replied.

"Take me to her." He persisted.

"Okay, alright." They helped him out of the bed and put him on a wheelchair there with the IV pole beside him. His Mom helped ride him to the room Jane was in but they saw her family outside the emergency room wearing gloomy faces.

His heart sank the more when he saw them in that position, he's the reason their daughter is in that position and seeing them that way reminded him of how his parents looked when his elder brother and wife died. He suppressed the lump building in his throat, trying not to let a tear roll down his face.

He's been nothing but a curse to Jane, because of him, she's hated by everyone and he destroyed her life with an accident. He wondered how many days they have been in this hospital and it didn't occur to him to ask his parents but that's by the way. He's here to meet her.

"Good morning Sir." He greeted as he neared Jane's parents. He greeted her mother but he ended getting a glare from her, up till this moment he wondered why Jane's mother didn't like him despise the fact he's a celebrity.

"Chris you're fine." Fortune squealed, giving him a light hug. "If you are alive, that means my sister will be alive too."

"Yes she will." He smiled, moved by her words. He really hoped her words to be true. He didn't want to live with guilt of making her lose her life for the rest of his life.

"Where's she?" He asked, looking at them. "Why won't the doctor let you in?"

"I don't know." Jane's father heaves a deep breath, Chris could see his muscles tensed. "He won't let us in, he and the nurses have been walking in and out of this room for a week now but they won't tell us what's wrong with her."

"A week?" Chris almost screamed. "We've been in this hospital that long?"

"Yes, we really thought you both won't make it." His Mom prompted. "But thank goodness you're fine, we just pray Jane's fine too."

All this time, Jane's Mom never said a word to him, like ask him how's his doing but instead she kept mute and look at the door of Jane's ward properly expecting a miracle to happen. Like Jane coming out of that room in good shape.

"I want to see her myself." He said, riding himself towards the door of her ward but he was stopped by his brother.

"Didn't you hear Mom?" V asked rhetorically. "They won't let us in, why are you persistent?"

"Cause I'm the reason she's in that condition and I want to know how she's doing." He replied.

"But….." he cuts his brother off. "No buts and no one should stop me." He snatched his wheelchair from his brother grip and makes his way towards the room. He managed to open the door and slides himself in.

"What are you doing in here?" The doctor asked him immediately he walked in. "Didn't I make it clear to you all I don't want to see any of you in here and you are supposed to be in your bed not here."

"I know doc." He said, his heart palpitating at the sight of Jane. Her face was all wrapped up. From where he is he could see that and with all other medical equipments surrounding her. He almost lost his balance seeing her. Is her condition that bad? The ventilator machine was beside her including the heart reading monitor. She wore the anesthesia mask over her nose but the treatment she's getting was….. he didn't know the right words for it.

"You shouldn't be here and you're still unwell." The doctor almost yelled at him. "Get back to your ward!"

"Doctor, I will never be at peace if I don't know what's going on." He said, his eyes growing teary. "And I'm really in the reason she's in this condition. I want to have a close look at her doctor, please grant my wish and tell what's really wrong with her and why is her face all banded up?"

"Her face got disfigured due to the accident and if you would leave us. We were in the middle of something before you walked in." The doctor replied with irritation in his voice.

"Can I know what you're doing to her?" He looked expectantly at the doctor.

'We're still trying to find out what's wrong with her and how to solve it….." The doctor gave him a pointed look, full of irritation. "I have said too much, now leave and don't ever come out of your ward, get it?"

Lost in thought of what the doctor said, he didn't hear when he told him to go back to his ward. Why won't the doctor say anything? What's he hiding? He hoped it isn't what he's thinking it is.

"Nurse Nikki, take him back to his ward." The doctor ordered one average skinny woman there with him.

"Yes doctor." She complied to what the doctor said and showed him the way out.

But on his way out. One thing kept bothering his mind. They have been in this hospital for a week now but why isn't she waking up?

All the hair in his back prick up in fear as negative thoughts flooded his brain but he has to stay positive and hope for the best.
