SHE'S FINE

The nurse led him out of the emergency room as the doctor instructed. Chris came out but he was feeling restless, the expression on the doctor's face said so much of the condition Jane was in. It was as if he's battling himself to do everything he can to keep her breathing, he muscles were all tensed and judging by what he said. He still couldn't depict what's wrong with Jane but then her bandaged face pops in his head and all he could is cry silently in his heart.

He will keep on blaming himself for that, he's the reason she's in that condition. What if her condition is terribly critical? How will he deal with itโ€ฆ..and her parents, how will they deal with the condition their daughter is?

The worst part is that the doctor won't say anything or let him near her. He casts his gaze down, making his way to where the Jane's and his families are. The nurse went back into the emergency room immediately she led him out.

"Were you able to see her?" His Mom asked, looking so anxious and worried. He couldn't even bring his face to look at them. He was filled with pain as his heart kept breaking into tiny pieces at the damage he caused.

"Talk to us?" Jane's mother almost screamed at him. "What did the doc said is wrong with my daughter!" The tone of her voice jolted him up and he was forced to look at them, he saw the impatience, the worry, the fear, the anxiety and the questions written all over their face.

He opened his mouth to speak but no words came out, his throat dried up. His chest tightened with pain as the image of Jane's bandaged face flash before him again. He tried speaking but it was as if he was battling with the words to say, the right words to say so it won't hurt any of them.

Vincent saw the pain in his eyes and he wondered what he saw in there that made him mute but they got to know what's wrong. With a gentle voice he asked, "bro what's wrong? Why are you tensed? You can let us know, you're making us all anxious with your silence."

"Nothing is wrong." He finally spoke up, faking a smile. "I'm just sad because I'm the reason she's in this condition but the doctor said she's fine. They are operating her." He saw relief washed through them at what he said.

His Mom and Dad, including Fortune and her father bought his lie but his brother and Jane's mother gave him a pointed look which speak so much that's he's lying, maybe they saw through his lie but he can't bring himself and say Jane isn't fine. The doctor himself confirmed it that she's not okay.

"That's alright." Vincent smiled, clapping him gently on his shoulder. He looked at Jane's mother and the look she gave him was more of contempt. Like she will forever blame him for her daughter's condition but he can't blame her. If he's in her shoesโ€ฆ.. he would do more than that, he will even strangle that person to death.

"You shouldn't blame yourself for it." Fortune said to him, smiling. "It's not your fault, you didn't know this would happen so you shouldn't feel guilty about it. I know my sister will be fine just like you're."

"Tell me, what led to this accident?" Jane's Mom asked icily. Her tone was sharp and it sent chills down his veins. He had faced some many people in his life, paparazzi, the press, work partners, fans, haters and he knew how to deal with them but standing in front of the mother of the woman he wanted to marry left him dumb. All the energy in him drained.

He opened his mouth to speak but was cut off when the door of the emergency room opened, they looked and saw the doctor and the nurses walked out.

"How is she, doctor?" Jane's Mom rushed to the doctor. 'How is my daughter?"

"Calm down, nothing is wrong." The doctor said, smiling. "She's fine, don't worry." He tried to keep his voice firm, to prevent it from shaking.

"Tell us what's wrong with her?" Her Dad asked, looking expectantly at the doctor.

"Nothing much, she just sustained some injuries but don't worry too much, she's responding to treatment." The doctor smiled again, sweetly.

"What about her face?" Chris asked, anxiously. "Her face was all banded up. What's wrong with her face?"

"Nothing much, we are treating her face too." The doctor said, looking at their faces. Her face was really injured too so we wrapped it up but we will remove it soon. You guys shouldn't panic, she's fine. That's our job here, to make sure everything is under control."

Chris stared at the doctor with bewilderment. Wasn't this the same doctor who was panicking in there? Why is he acting like all is well, something is wrong somewhere but what if he has taken care of it. He wondered. Maybe like he said, that's their job and everything is now fine.

"Can we see her now?" Jane's Mom asked with enthusiasm.

"No." The doctor said sharply. "She's resting. Once she wakes up and in the right mind to see you, you can see her then." He smiled and walked away from them.

Jane's Mom slumped on the chair there, relief washing through her, her daughter is fine. She's fineโ€ฆ..soon she will see her daughter. A smile creeped on her face at that thought.

"Mom, you shouldn't worry, sis will be fine." Fortune sat beside her, putting his arm around her shoulder and giving her a warm smile. "I believe in me that she's fine, my sister is fine. She's a fighter and I know she will fight this."

She smiled at her daughter's words as the tears started building in her eyes. Fortune rests her head on her chest and strokes her hair, trying to calm her down including herself. Vincent looked over to where they were and saw what she was doing. He was moved and his lips cocked into a sweet smile.

Her sister is in the emergency room, battling with her life. They can't really rely on what the doctor said cause anything can happen but she's not letting her sister's condition get to her. She's being positive and that only made him want to go to her and console her.

He waved that off his mind, she's not that specialโ€ฆ. anyone in his shoes will be feeling the same way. He returned to his attention to his brother.

_______________

Later that night, Chris laid on his bed in his ward, feeling restless, looking aimlessly and hopeless at the ceiling. All he could think of is Jane and the condition she is. He wished he could rewind time but the milk has already been spilled and all he could do now is pray for her safety. He looked over his shoulder and saw his brother seated on the couch of his room sleeping, Fortune sat beside him. Resting her head on his laps, sleeping too.

They are the only ones in the hospital, his parents and Jane's parents had to go home and get some rest, after much persuasion from Vincent and Fortune, they had to leave. Although her mom refused to leave but Fortune had to persuade her the more. So making the two of them the only people here and they are fast asleep. Since the doctor forbade anyone to go into Jane's room, Fortune had to stay in his room.

This is the perfect time to go to her and know how she's faring, he will explain to the doctor later for his actions. He managed to get down from his bed, trying not to make a noise. He sits on his wheelchair. His brother almost opened his eyes cause of the noise his wheelchair made although it wasn't that audible. He watched his brother turn his head to the other side, resting very well on the couch head rest. Sleeping peacefully.

He lets out a relief breath as he climbs into his wheelchair and rode himself to the door, he gently and quietly opened the door and walked out. He approached Jane's ward, heart pounding as he reached for the door knob. His hand was shaking but he got to do what he got to do. He got to see her and apologize for what he did to her.

Even though she may not hear him but the weight in his heart will be lifted if he poured out his feelings to her. He opened the door of her room and walked in but he was more terrified when he found her bed empty. She isn't in her bed.

Where could she be? She was in here this afternoon. Where could she be now? All the negative thoughts started flashing through his mind. It shouldn't be what he's thinking. Jane is alright.

She is fine. The doctor affirmed that. Jane is fine.....she is. He tried to stay positive as the negative thoughts keep popping in his head.
