Chapter 28: Millions in Losses

On the other side of the house, Kace walked into his room and saw his wife was sitting on the edge of the bed. She was holding a piece of tissue in her hand and her nose was red from crying. When she saw him enter, she turned away from him and crossed her arms in anger. Kace's heart sank. He hated when she was angry with him.

"Baby… Charlotte. Please forgive me." Charlotte was not listening to him. They had dated for two years, and he never yelled at her. Now that they were a married couple would all of that change?" She did not know if she was overly sensitive because of the baby, or if she truly had something to worry about. Kace pleaded with his wife again.

"Char, please… I misdirected my anger. I was really angry with how my sister treated you." Kace gently cupped his wife's hand and kissed her fingers. She turned her face away from his, still upset.

"Still angry?" he asked. "Okay, I'll sleep outside tonight." Charlotte grabbed her husband's hands. She knew he was under a lot of pressure right now and she did not want to add to it. She finally spoke.

"I will not force a relationship with your sister, but if I am going to continue living in this house with her, I need your guarantee that she will not cause you to be angry with me again."

Kace's wife was not a person who held grudges, which is why she forgave him for everything he had done to her. She literally had a door slammed in her face after her show of affection, and the only thing she cared about was whether he was angry with her. He sighed and hugged his wife tightly. He could not help but to think that his wife could have been just like Lisa if she had not captured his heart first, and even then, he had almost ruined any chance of them ever being together by being hasty. It was because of his experiences with his wife that Kace pitied Lisa. After ten years, she was still blindly following behind the man she loved without so much as a promise. He did not know how much longer it would take for her to realize that President Lee did not love her the way she loved him.

----

In her room, Lisa finished the crepes and had to admit that they were not bad. She thought to herself that her sister in law must have taken to cooking after giving up her career. She pitied the woman. Kace shouted at her so miserably while she was pregnant no less. She absentmindedly wondered how many other injustices that sorry woman faced at the hands of her brother. Lisa knew Kace well and he was no angel. She wondered if his wife knew about it all, but then again. She was a third party herself, so maybe she was just as guilty as he was. A cruel smile played across Lisa's face as she opened her email. She reviewed the files her brother had sent her and felt as if all the blood drained from her body.

Over the last six years, Lisa had cost her family nearly $300,000,000 in severance fees, failed business ventures and maltreatment lawsuits. She wanted to question the accuracy of the information, but she could recall every single instance listed out in the numerous pages of attachments. Fortunately, they had not factored in her recent losses from her latest failed business. She was sure that would take another $50,000,000 to her losses. Lisa needed to act quickly. She needed to become a part of the Lee family before her brother humiliated her by taking everything she worked hard for away from her.

Right now, Ian and everyone else still thought of her as successful in her own right. If they found out that she was a failure, she was afraid it would ruin her chances with Ian. She needed to go back to square one and restart her plan. If she could make Ian sleep with her, she could then use it as an excuse for him to marry her, especially if she could get a baby. That was right, if she could somehow get pregnant by Ian, she could leave the Anders family and never look back. Lisa thought of a plan right away.

----

Zane arrived at the Lee mansion and Ian greeted him at the door. He had not seen his best friend in a few days and was relieved to hear from him. He entered the home and looked at Ian's face, he seemed troubled. Knowing that his best friend was under a lot of pressure with the takeover, Zane affectionately placed his hand on Ian's shoulder.

"Why don't we have a drink?" Zane asked. He knew Ian only drank socially and rarely drank for no reason, but today, having a drink would be therapeutic. Once inside, Zane looked around for Ian's nan, but did not see her. She would normally greet him with a smile but today she was nowhere to be found.

"Where's your nan?" Zane asked. He was trying to get a reading on his friend but was unable to do so.

"She went to stay with Luna for a while." Ian replied.

"She just left?" Zane asked.

"She wanted to go," Ian said in an indifferent tone that Zane picked up on immediately.

Zane had been friends with Ian for a long time. As a result, he interacted with his family often, and he knew that Ruby would never just go stay with Luna. Ian must have asked her to go, and if so why? There must have been something going on with Luna, and Zane feared that someone may have done something bad to the girl to get back at Ian.

When Ian called and said he needed advice, Zane assumed it was work related but now, he was not so sure.
