Chapter 103: Drax's Stupid Woman-1 (A Side Story)

As soon as the apartment door closed, Mills ran to her room and flopped herself on the bed. She thought about all the things she had experienced and that night, and how perfect Drax was. For the first time in her life she felt like a normal girl. Unfortunately, this also meant she could never be with the man who was called Third Master of the Staton family.

----

Like his sister advised, Drax forwarded a few of the pictures he took during their date to Mills. In all of them she was either laughing or covering her smiling face. The photos he had of her on the swing were by far the cutest. Her open mouth smile was genuine and pure, she looked truly delighted. Drax scrolled through the photos and landed on one he secretly took while her head was leaning against his shoulder. Her eyes were closed and there was a peaceful expression on her face. He only hoped he could give her that peaceful feeling every time they were together.

----

In the morning, Drax checked his phone but there was no reply text from Mills. Believing that she was still sleeping, he ignored the anxious feeling he was having.

Drax was in the shower when his phone rang, and he sprang out of the tub still lathered in soap to answer. To his dismay, the call was from his sister. She wanted to know how his date had gone. Drax told her he would call her back in a second. He cut his shower short and as promised gave his sister a call.

Fiori put her phone on speaker as Drax went into vivid detail while recalling his evening. He outlined the conversations they had and as far as she could tell, her brother's date went well. Fiori laughed when he told her about Milo's frequent texting, and about him pulling Mills into their apartment just as she was about to kiss him goodnight. To her, the man sounded like a good brother.

"Has she called you yet?" Fiori asked, but Drax only sighed in response. Not sensing anything amiss, Fiori helped Drax plan a second date. This time, she suggested they do something fun during the day. When Drax kept suggesting things like shooting or racing, Adir, who had been listening in, lost his patience.

"Are you trying to win over a woman or woo one of your comrades?" He asked. Drax looked at his phone confused.

"How long have you been listening?"

"Since the beginning," Adir said curtly. Drax was silent on the line and Fiori could almost see him staring at her disapprovingly. Adir, took over the conversation and cut straight to the chase.

"From what I gathered; that Mills girl is a formidable woman. She has probably grown tired of shooting guns and driving fast. Take her on something less exciting, like a picnic," he said. Drax knew that when his brother said 'from what I gathered' he meant that he had already had Mills investigated. This also meant that his other brother; Cade, was probably involved somehow.

'How did this become a family affair?' Drax thought.

Drax and his siblings continued to brainstorm date ideas when they finally settled on taking Mills to a minigolf course. Drax hated the idea, but both of his siblings promised that it would be more fun because he would be playing with someone he really liked. He had a feeling that his brother also helped plan his first date, so he agreed to their suggestion and in order to appease Drax, they found a place that also had a go-kart track. This made Drax feel a lot better about how boring he felt the date was going to be.

Mills still had not responded to Drax's text, and he worried that she may not have received the photos. His sister suggested for him to send a 'good morning text' after they ended the call, and that he did. Two additional hours went by and still not a word. Beginning to worry, Drax swallowed his pride and called Mills, but he only got through to her voicemail. Throwing something on quickly, Drax went to Milo's factory.

Milo was sitting at his desk, trying to realize one of his sister's designs when a very distressed looking Drax showed up at his office. He asked about Mills, but Milo told him that she was busy. Understanding that Mills also had her life to live, Drax headed back to his hotel room. He called Mills more times than he would ever admit, but she did not answer. Eventually, his calls went straight to the automated voicemail and he knew that it was because she blocked his calls.

In a panic, Drax called his sister and told her about the sudden change in events. Adir had already gone to his office, so he could only rely on her advice. Fiori was stumped; based on her brother's version of events, nothing had gone left the entire night.

"Drax, you didn't say anything rude. Did you?" He was about to say 'no' when he remembered his joke about bringing her home in the morning. Drax mentioned this to his sister and she went quiet. Drax broke the silence by saying that he truly hadn't thought much about it because he thought she knew he was joking.

"Go find her and apologize," Fiori said, and Drax didn't waste time.

----

Two days later, Drax was parked outside of Mills' apartment complex. He had been unable to locate her on his own, so he called in a favor with a local politician and the man was able to get a location on Mills. Better than that, the politician was able to convince her to return to her apartment in a hurry.

The twins had only just stepped out of their vehicle when Drax stepped directly in front of Mills. Realizing that she had fallen for a trap, she folded her arms across her chest and attempted to walk around him. Milo had already given the pair space to talk.

"Mills whatever I did, whatever I said. I'm sorry," Drax said, but his apology fell on deaf ears.

"Please stop bothering me," Mills said, "this obsessed behavior is actually scary." Drax's heart ached.

"Why?" He asked. "Why are you avoiding me?"

"Because" she replied.

"Because of what?"

"I'm... I'm in love with someone," she blurted out and the words hit Drax like a ton of bricks.

Mills was not expecting Drax to take her declaration so hard. His emotions were so palpable that it was almost as if the air around them had become heavy. In a low whisper Drax asked her one last question.

"Then why… why did you go out with me?"

"It was in our contract," she said.

"Didn't I try to cancel? You insisted. I didn't think you would take it so seriously." Defeated, Drax did not even respond. He entered his car and drove away. When Mills caught up to her brother, his face held a condoling expression.

"Mills, don't you think that was a little harsh?" He asked, but his sister did not answer him. Taking a closer look, he could see that her face was red and wet. She was crying.
