Chapter 102: Drax’s First Date-3 (A Side Story)

After an amazing dinner, Drax took Mills to a local park. She recognized the place, but it was not somewhere people came at night unless they were like her, and Drax was not like her. She began to worry, but she didn't panic. She knew that he could handle himself if anyone tried anything, but she was still cautious.

"What are we here for?" She asked, but Drax only smiled. He led Mills out of the car and took her to what looked like a brand-new playset. He sat her on a swing, and she became anxious. "Wha… what are you doing?" She stuttered out but he just told her to relax. Drax gently pushed the swing and Mills let out a girlish, tickled laugh. She had never been on a swing before, in fact there were almost none where she came from. Swings and other playground toys could only be found in the richest districts, and by the time Mills had enough prowess to travel into them, she was beyond the age of looking for a jungle gym.

When Mills could laugh no more, Drax stopped the swing and led her to a nearby bench. They sat there without speaking for a long time before she hooked her hand into his. Not wanting to scare her away, he resisted the urge to pull her in close to his body, but he did not have to resist for long.

On her own accord, Mills rested her head on Drax's shoulder and let out a deep and satisfied sigh. She wanted to hold onto the moment for as long as possible.

"What are you thinking about?" He asked. Mills wanted to tell him that she was thinking about how their relationship would never go past their first date, but she did not want to ruin the memory.

"How did you think to prepare all this?" She asked and Drax admitted to having help. Removing her head from his shoulder Mills sat up straight.

"You told your sister about me? What did she say?" Drax was unprepared for that sort of reaction. Mills seemed almost anxious. Wanting to calm her down, he placed his giant hand on her cheek.

"What could she say? This is our first date, of course she would be happy for me," he said. Mills did not know how to feel about Drax's admission. It was, in fact, her first date but when he said our first date, she did not know if he meant the first between the two of them, or the first for either of them. Seeing the confused look on Mills' face Drax corrected himself. "Oh, it looks like this is just my first date," he said, and Mills looked in his eyes imploringly.

"You're not wrong," Mills said shyly. This put a smile on Drax's face. Milo had already told him that his sister had never dated, in truth he didn't care much about that, but having made this once in a lifetime memory with her felt great. Drax leaned in to kiss the woman before him but just as his face reached hers, his phone buzzed.

----

Milo had texted Drax several times throughout the evening wanting to know when he should expect his sister. It was nearly 11PM and she was still not home. He checked with the restaurant and confirmed that it had closed an hour prior. Afraid his sister would fall too deeply for Drax's charms he called the man she was with. If Drax did not answer Milo would go and find them himself.

"Hello?" An annoyed voice sounded over the line.

"Hey, where are you? When are you bringing my sister home?" Milo asked. Drax narrowed his eyes at the phone. He thought there was some sort of emergency based on the amount of texts he received. "I said when are you bringing my sister home?" Milo repeated.

"Maybe tomorrow afternoon," Drax said suggestively. Milo's face went dark. He was about to speak when the call ended.

----

Mills was curious about the call Drax received. He looked so angry at the caller she couldn't help but to think it was one of his family members wanting to know when he planned to return home.

"Who was that?" Mills asked cautiously and Drax waved his hand in the air dismissively.

"It was your brother," he said.

"What did he want?"

"Nothing much, he wanted to know when I was planning to send you home." Realization dawned on Mills as she recalled what Drax had just said. She slapped Drax's chest hard, but the man didn't even flinch.

"He asked for that," he said while pointing to his phone and Mills laughed. She could only imagine what her brother must be thinking.

----

Drax walked Mills to her apartment. At the park he had given her his jacket and she was still wearing it. Despite her being a taller than average woman, she looked tiny wearing his clothes.

Once in front of her apartment door, Drax pushed a strand of Mills' hair behind her ear and stole a kiss from her cheek. He no longer had the courage to do anything more. Mills' face flushed in response.

Sensing that the night had come to an end, Mills removed the jacket from around her shoulders and handed it to its owner. In that moment, she had the urge to give Drax her first kiss. She had sensed that he wanted to kiss her at the park, but he was interrupted by the incessant buzzing of his cell. Aiming to pick up where he left off, Mills leaned in close to Drax's face, but her apartment door swung open and her brother pulled her inside with more strength than she knew he had.

Through a crack in the closing door, Drax waved goodnight to Mills.

As soon as the apartment door closed, Mills ran to her room and flopped herself on the bed. For the first time ever, she felt just like a normal girl. Unfortunately, being a normal girl also meant she probably could never have anything more than a friendship with the man who bore the title Third Master of the Staton family.
