Chapter 106: Scattered

Back in the Lee building:

Zane did not immediately return to his office; he had another meeting to attend and he did not want to hurt Mina's reputation by spending too much time with her alone in his office. Trusting that the girl would not cause any more trouble, Zane went straight to his last schedule of the day.

----

Mina had polished off every dish Zane had sent for her. She had only eaten breakfast, and that was before dawn. Mina piled all the dirty dishes into a neat stack and pushed the table into a corner, she was neat by nature and the table was an eyesore to her.

Bored, Mina decided to explore the floor of the Lee building she was currently on. Once she stepped out of Mr. Zane's office, she had to fight back the urge to flee. The man had been nice to her and she did not want to get him into trouble, besides, she couldn't be sure that there were no guards at the exits after her last escape attempt. Resigning herself to fate, Mina started to look for the girl who she saw isolated in the corner earlier. As she expected, the woman was swarmed with work. Her desk could barely be seen under the piles of paper. Apparently, there was a Miss Maggie everywhere.

Mina walked up to the girl and leaned on her desk.

"What can I help you with?" She asked, but the woman didn't even look up. "Fine, I'll just sit here and talk to you nonstop. I think that will be the best way to keep you motivated." Mina continued to ramble on and on until the girl finally looked up at her.

"This is all classified," the woman said, and Mina arched an eyebrow at her. Laughing at herself, the girl spoke again. "I'm actually telling the truth. This is classified filing. You cannot help me with it?"

"Says who?" Mina asked. Realizing that she would not win this argument, Secretary Kim handed Mina a stack of documents and pointed to a copy machine.

"These are general reports, they need to be copied and stapled in this order." Mina took the documents and started on her task.

Mina only copied one complete handout before she became frustrated. At 50 pages each, the task was tedious and some sort of punishment. Realizing there was an easier way to accomplish the same goal, Mina asked Secretary Kim if she could borrow a thumb drive. Like a robot the woman reached into her desk and handed Mina what she was asking for. Mina returned to the copy machine and this time; she copied the document onto the drive as a compressed file. Once she was done, she used the copy machine to access the stored document and set it to create one hundred, stapled copies. It was done within an hour.

When Mina brought the documents back to Secretary Kim, the woman had nearly cleared the work from her desk. Seeing that Mina had finished the job that was originally assigned to her, the secretary allowed herself to relax a little. Mina stared at the busy woman for a long time before she spoke.

"What is your name?" Mina asked.

"It's Rachel," the secretary said.

"What's with you and that rude lady who tried to hit me earlier?" Secretary Kim quickly corrected her.

"It's Miss Camille." Mina rolled her eyes at the correction.

"Is she always like that or was today a bad day?" Choosing her words carefully Rachel replied tactfully.

"Today was like any other." A mischievous smile flashed on Mina's face and the secretary had a bad feeling. When Mina stood up the woman shot in front of her to block her path.

"What are you going to do?" she asked, and Mina winked.

"You don't even know my name and you're already trying to control me," she joked. Mina walked around the girl who looked panicked.

"I already know your name is Mina, I heard you when you introduced yourself to Miss Camille." Mina did not stop walking and Rachel followed her. "Mina, don't get us in trouble!"

Mina stopped in front of what looked like a custom desk. There was a nameplate on it that read 'Camille Emming'. The pretentious nature of everything on it caused Mina to laugh. Feeling like being obnoxious, Mina sat on the corner of the desk and waited for the woman to look up.

"How many times have you read that book?" Mina asked.

"Obviously not as many times as you," Camille said.

"Don't compare yourself to me, it's not healthy, but you seem like a smart lady. Why do you work here?" Mina asked genuinely interested.

"This is one of the best companies in Scal City," Camille replied.

"I disagree," Mina said. Everyone who had been paying attention slowly changed the speed of their typing. They wanted to make the least amount of noise possible; it looked like the exchange between the two women was going to be good.

Camille, who did not know whether to be flattered or offended by Mina's comment, listed off a dozen reasons why the Lee corporation was the best. Mina refuted her claims with a dozen reasons of her own.

"Having capital does not make a company the best," she said. By this time, many other people had joined the conversation. Keeping their voices at a minimum, a friendly debate began to take shape. Even Rachel added her two cents in, and Camille was surprised that the secretary had a brain.

By the time CEO Zane returned from his meeting. All the staff that was supposed to be stationed outside of his office were gone. Walking to the other wing of the floor, he could see that everyone was currently listening to someone speak. There were even a few people taking notes. Not understanding what was going on, Zane texted President Lee, who peaked out of his office hoping to catch everyone in the act of slacking off.

Thinking it was just one or two people, Ian wanted to memorize their faces for later. He was absolutely stunned when he saw that all forty employees on the floor were huddled around a single point.

"What is going on here?" President Lee shouted, and everyone scattered.
