Chapter 107: Penitence

After everyone scattered, President Lee could see Mina sitting on the edge of someone's desk with an unfazed expression on her face.

"You better go," Camille warned in a whisper, but Mina loudly proclaimed

"Don't worry, he doesn't see me. I'm invisible." Camille didn't understand the joke, but Mina's facial expression was comical, and Camille covered her face, attempting to hide her smile. President Lee misread the situation and came to inquire.

"Did she hit you again?" Mina rolled her eyes at the question. Confused Camille stood up and spoke honestly.

"Sir, I am not sure who told you those lies, but Mina did not hit me." President Lee scanned the room for at least one of the gossiping women. When he found one, he beckoned for her to approach using one finger.

"Explain yourself," he demanded. The woman recounted the story and yet again, she conveniently left out the part where Camille attempted to slap Mina. Rachel, who had been squatting behind a desk sprang up wanting to speak but under the gaze of President Lee, she kept quiet.

"Miss Kim, welcome back. Do you have something to add to this story?" The woman shook her head. Camille, who was feeling guilty, knew she should speak up, but if she were removed from her position, her father would force her to retire and get married.

Seeing that her presence was harming innocent people, Mina stood to leave, but President Lee grabbed her forearm.

"I'm still talking," he said and Mina feigned ignorance.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize," she said as she wiggled her arm trying to break free, but she could not snatch it away from the man. Zane slowly walked into view and chuckled.

"President Lee, I actually witnessed the entire altercation between these two. I think you are missing an important detail," he said, and Mina shot him a warning look. She did not want anyone to suffer because of her.

President Lee saw Mina's action, so he did not release her arm.

"What are you two hiding?" Camille sank into her chair with dread. President Lee looked at the half-melted woman and yelled.

"Pack your things and report to the second floor," as soon as he finished speaking, he heard the word 'what?' coming from two different directions. One from Camille and the other from Mina.

"You can't demote her. She's probably one of the best employees you have," Mina guesed. Camille was especially shocked by the girl coming to her rescue.

Grabbing president Lee's arm in the same way he was holding hers, Mina refused to let go, unless he changed his mind. Everyone who was brave enough to look up widened their eyes. That Mina person was certainly daring, insane but daring.

As if Ian had not had enough excitement for the day, a familiar voice rang out in the room and all heads jerked in its direction.

"Lisa!" Ian said, and Mina jerked away so fast that Zane had to help her catch her balance.

"Who is she and why is she hugging you?" Lisa asked.

Camille, who was just a few feet away from Mina looked at Lisa and thought 'is this woman blind? In no way was Mina hugging president Lee, she didn't even look at his face as she spoke. She looked grossed out to be touching him!'

"Lisa, she wasn't hugging me, and she is…" Ian hesitated before he spoke again. After he explained who she was, Lisa turned her attention to Mina.

"I didn't know Luna had any friends besides me," Lisa said. "You should join Ian and I for dinner tonight, I would love to get to know you too," she concluded. Mina laughed awkwardly at the suggestion.

"I'd hate to be a third wheel," she said, but Lisa insisted.

Turning to Zane, Mina mouthed the word 'help', but the man only shook his head. His dislike for Lisa had only grown in the last few days and it was largely because she seemed to be using Luna again. He did not want to spend any of his free time around her.

"Zane, why don't you join us as well? It can be like a double date." Zane, Ian, and Mina had the same wide-eyed reaction to the suggestion and the look on their faces caused Camille to snort.

Reminded of what he was doing before Lisa arrived, President Lee pointed at both women and said,

"We'll deal with this in the morning. Everyone else, get back to work." The sounds of keystrokes filled the room once again. "Let's talk about plans in my office," Ian suggested.

Once the office door was closed, Lisa shot questions at Mina in rapid succession. Fortunately, President Lee's phone rang, and he gestured for everyone to be quiet.

From what Mina could interpret, someone named Drax needed help locating someone named Mills. The voice, although not clear, sounded worried, and impatient. President Lee asked the person to calm down and gave him a number to call. He told the person on the phone that the mayor owed him a favor and that he could use his official position to call it in, then he ended the conversation.

While president Lee was on the phone, Mina was silently pleading with Zane. She wanted him to help her out of the awkward situation, but Zane ignored her. He also did not want any part of the outing. Seeing that Zane refused to meet her eyes, Mina began to pick at her nails. Zane probably did not know what happened at the hotel that night. Otherwise she was sure he would have helped her. Right?

Lisa noticed the strange girl picking at her fingertips and instantly took a disliking to her weak demeanor. She was no fool, she clearly saw the woman flirting with her man and she wanted to teach her a lesson. Perhaps if the girl weren't good looking, Lisa wouldn't have felt the need to retaliate but, if she didn't teach this new employee a lesson, the girl might become even more ambitious.

"Why do you look so nervous?" Lisa asked. "Haven't you ever been on a date before?" Mina's eyes darted around, but there was no one to help her out of the situation. Zane did not like Lisa, but Mina's behavior made him curious.

"Mina, will this be your first date?" He asked, and Mina nodded. "So, none of your previous boyfriends took you out to dinner?" He followed up, and Mina denied ever having a boyfriend. Zane sat up straight and decided to piss Lisa off a bit.

"Don't worry, having a meal together doesn't mean it's a first date," he assured. Mina flashed a quick smile before her face fell flat again. Zane also thought she was nervous, but she was actually feeling guilty.
