Chapter 149: Attacked

In the morning, Dom arrived at the Lee mansion and was immediately summoned by his boss. Not thinking anything was wrong, he confidently strode into the study only to have something shoved into his hand so hard the packaging crumbled. He looked down at the small box and back up at his boss.

"Um… Thank you sir," Dom said, confused.

"In the future, you should get these yourself." Dom was now even more baffled.

"Sir?" he said as a question.

"It's none of my business," Ian said coldly, then he dismissed the guard.

Dom retreated to the common area for the staff, not understanding why his boss had just given him the unusual 'gift.'

While there had been a few dalliances with some of the female guards, Dom usually kept his personal and work matter separate, but lately he had his eye on one of the women still being trained, and he had been vocal about it. Maybe president Lee had found out and wanted to make a point by embarrassing him? Not wanting to think too much of it, he shoved the item in his pocket and waited to be needed, but a small part of him was worried.

----

Mina had woken up by 5am, she was fully clothed by 6am and she was currently waiting for President Lee to come down for breakfast. She had seen Luna leave earlier than usual. The woman told Mina that she had an important project that she was working on and she would probably be gone for the next few days. This meant that Mina would be left alone with President Lee.

Mina did not mind the idea as much as she used to, because she knew that as long as she kept her distance from him and respected the rules he set in place, she would be fine. Besides, she planned to spend the next few weeks in the gym with Dom. She probably would not see President Lee at all on the days she did not have therapy. Unfortunately, today was not one of those days. She had therapy and she almost dreaded it as much as she dreaded being held captive.

----

Ian walked into the dining room to see a very awake and happy looking Mina. It was not that the girl was smiling or laughing. In fact, she was not doing anything cheery at all. It was just that she was dressed in light colors. It lifted the gloomy aura that usually surrounded her anytime she was in his house. He stared at her for a long while. He was taking in her innocent beauty while it was still there. When she noticed him, she stood and smiled. It was an obviously fake smile, but it still made his heart flutter. Ian sat at the table and did not waste time with small talk.

"Are you sure you want it to be Dom?" He asked, and Mina nodded confidently.

"I think he is the right person for what I need," she said. Ian's heart clenched.

"Could it not be me?" he asked. Mina looked at the man suspiciously before replying.

"Miss Lisa would not like that," she said. Ian remained quiet, had he listened to Zane back then he would not be in this situation now.

"Just be careful. Okay?" He said, causing Mina to do a double take. There was something in his voice that she had never heard. Thinking he was afraid she would overwork herself, Mina replied with a warm and genuine smile.

"I will."

----

Milo had successfully registered the patent on his backup weapon design. It was a quick and easy process. Being that they had not released any details about the gun thus far, he did not have to worry about competitors trying to steal or tweak his model in order to snatch the patent from under him. He normally did not think this way, but his sister was still in the business of finding weaknesses and loopholes in their security and while he would address any issue immediately, her actions had him living in a constant state of unease.

Ever since Mills and Drax spent the night together, she had been pestering him to take better precautions with the facility. She warned him that she would not always be around to help protect him. He knew that it was because she was truly planning to settle down, and while he was happy for her, he hated how weak he was, and would be, without her. Mills had already snuck up behind him several times during the day, and each time she detailed how simple it would have been to kill him. The stress of it was unreal, but he knew she had his best interest at heart.

Milo was sitting at his desk when the facility alarms blared. As per protocol. The building shut down access to all restricted areas without a certain level of clearance. Thinking his sister was up to her tricks again, Milo rolled his eyes. In fact, most of the guards half-assed their way to where the system indicated a security breach. Milo lazily glanced at his camera monitors and almost looked away before he noticed his sister in hand to hand combat against two men.

Milo jumped up from his chair and ran toward where he knew his sister was fighting. By the time he arrived, Mills had several bloody knife wounds on her midsection. She was still working hard to subdue one of the assailants.

"Stop that one," she shouted, but her brother had ignored her. There was blood everywhere. Rage engulfed him as he strode up to the struggling pair and in one swift motion, he snapped the man's neck. Mills looked at her brother in surprise.

"Why did you kill him?" she asked, but her brother had already lifted her up and was carrying her to safety. It was only then that she realized she had been injured in the scuffle. Her eyes filled with fear as she took in the seriousness of her injury.

"Milo," she whimpered before she fainted.
