Chapter 150: Attacked-2

Milo passed several confused looking guards while carrying his sister's limp body. The men were clearly trying to grasp the seriousness of the situation at hand. The fierce woman they had grown to fear, suddenly looked helpless in her brother's arms and it had shaken them.

"Find the other one and kill him," Milo ordered without stopping. His words were so sharp and crisp that the men who were usually very relaxed around him, became even more frigid. His grey eyes had darkened considerably and in combination with his pale skin, dark hair, and the blood that was somehow smeared across his face; the man looked straight out of hell. The men found themselves wondering if they had indeed signed a contract to work for death incarnate.

When Milo noticed the men still staring, he snarled his order again. This time, no one dared to hesitate, and they ran in the direction their boss indicated. Milo found himself feeling attacked by guilt, all the warnings his sister had given and all the hard work she had put into securing their facility had been for nothing. Not just himself, but the men he had insisted on hiring, had partly ignored the alarms and he knew that if they had all acted faster, his sister would not have been injured. Over the last ten years, this was the most serious wound he had ever seen on her. While he could not see it, he could tell based on the amount of blood that it was deep.

Milo had only just made his way out of the building when he heard an explosion come from behind him. He turned to see that there was smoke coming from the area in the building where his office was located. He held his sister tightly and ran as fast as his legs could carry him. Every warning Mills had given him suddenly triggered in his memory. He would not attempt to use his or her car, nor would he immediately head to a hospital. For an assassination attempt as bold as the one just executed to fail, it was likely that there would be people after them for quite some time. The best place for them to go, was the place they both vowed never to go again. It was that small hole where they called home when they were first abandoned by their family.

Mina was still waiting for President Lee. He was never so late to pick her up and despite herself, she began to worry that something bad may have happened. Mina still did not have a phone, so she had no way to get in contact with him or anyone else. The therapist she was seeing was a complete jerk who believed that she was delusional. The woman would not believe a word about Wayvair or Miss Maggie and she insisted that Mina had 'delusions of grandeur.'

Once again, their therapy session ended in a back and forth with the therapist citing Mina's lack of a commencement speech or Wayvair record, as evidence against her life story. The therapist was so sure that Mina was making things up, that when she retold Mina her own story, Mina herself began to have her doubts about her sanity. Mina desperately wanted to be free of the waste of time, but it was part of the plan to get her out of the Lee residence.

----

By the time Ian concluded his meeting, it was nearly an hour later than when he was supposed to go pick up Mina. He was actively trying to keep the woman off his mind by keeping busy and he had lost track of time. She had made herself clear and her decision seemed firm. He did not want to get involved if she honestly believed that Dom was the right man for her. His only concern was that she might be acting based on the fact that she felt her time was limited. Mina had told, not just him, but also his sister and Zane that she was not interested in flashy or boisterous men, yet somehow, she chose the most flamboyant man Ian had ever met. She had even made the bold move of asking someone to purchase protection for them to use. Had Dom not proven himself a loyal soldier time and time again, Ian would have had the man sent far away, but right now, there was no justification for it.

The thought of Mina being with someone else in that way made Ian sick, but who was he to complain? If it were not for the fact that he was still confused about Lisa, he would have called her to help pass the time, but he did not want to use her in that way. Ian knew that even if Lisa were the one under him, his mind would be on Mina, and he did not know if he wanted another stranger pressed into his bed.

Ian had only just made it to his office when he received a call from Milo.

"There's been an attack. Mills is hurt. Send help." The man ended the call abruptly. Ian knew it was because the man must have had some indication that he was being tracked or followed.

----

Ian made several quick calls in succession. He had to resist the urge to call Drax. He knew the man was halfway across the globe, and he feared that he would do something reckless to get to Mills' side. Ian's mood began to darken, not just on his friend's behalf but, because it was the second attack on a Lee holding in as many days, and both attacks were in separate countries. Whoever was targeting him, was obviously trying to split his attention in several directions at once.

Realizing something, Ian jumped out of his chair and ran toward the exit. He had left Mina alone for too long, and while he doubted that all of this was meant to pull his attention away from her, what if for whatever reason, the girl was killed? He knew he would never forgive himself by trying to justify his actions. He knew he was ignoring Mina and trying to teach her a lesson because his feelings were hurt by her decision.

Once in his car Ian made a call to the doctor who was treating Mina, but the call was forwarded to a receptionist.

"I believe Miss Mina has already left the hospital," the woman said.
