Just Give Me A Reason

Cathryn painstakingly removed Alex's hand from her shoulders and like a fly, it kept coming back. She left him be. Why was he acting like he was her boyfriend out of the blue?

This... stranger. She couldn't say that he was her enemy. He isn't her friend, either. For god's sake, this was the first time she knew of his name. Cathryn kept calling him dude or asshole or whatever curse words that first came to mind.

Professor Andy hadn't mentioned a brother to class before. Well, why would he mention it in the first place? They were not that close when it came to personal information or family background. And nobody in the class had been asking so she didn't ask too.

Woah, Woah, Woah. Was he jealous when he realized she and Professor Andy are somewhat close? Or was Cathryn too conceited? Why was he acting so possessive? Ohmygod, her thoughts. It had no business dwelling if this Alex was jealous or not. Cathryn needed to get out of there.

"What is it you wanted to talk about Andre?" Alex asked as he kept on drumming the table. "Hurry, my girlfriend and I are going somewhere."

"Believe me, professor, I just knew this guy from earlier. I have no idea he's your younger brother. Why he keeps on saying that I'm his girlfriend is beyond me." Cathryn explained.

"But we kissed. Twice."

"We did not!" She said, indignant.

"So that kiss was just my imagination?" Alex's smile beamed at her when she didn't respond. "Don't tell me your lips fell, and good guy that I am, I caught it?"

"You kissed me first!"

"And, I am so flattered you kissed me back."

Cathryn was so annoyed that tears sprang from her eyes. Did he have to broadcast this to everyone? She blushed in embarrassment. Now his brother, her art professor, knows. Everyone in this whole pub knows.

"I'm going home."

Alex pulled her back and her butt fell on the chair ungracefully. "Sorry, but my girlfriend is not going anywhere."

Ugh. Why? Why did she have to endure all this? Endure everyone's stares?

Professor Andy laughed. As in LAUGHED!

His eyes were all smoky brown luring her, his jaw was all shadowy with beard stubble, and his hair defied gravity in places. Sex appeal rolled off from him in dizzy waves.

They were crinkles on his eyes and now she could see the resemblance. He's a late-twenties version of Alex and the realization didn't sit well with her.

"I'd never expected I'd live to see the day you being fazed by something...or someone, Cat. Especially, not because of my younger brother." His happy-go-lucky smile beckoned to her. "Anyway, I would like to say sorry since it's my fault you didn't win first place. You see, my co-judges recognized Alex as my brother on stage and if it weren't for my intervention, you might have been disqualified. But I know it wouldn't be fair to you, Cat. It's my brother's fault for not warning me that he's joining that competition. You picked him up before the contest started, I take it?"

"Yes," Cathryn confessed. "Edward didn't appear so I have no choice but to pick him up."

Solemnly, The professor took her hand in his. "There must have been an emergency."

Ugh. Cathryn should have picked that Italian guy over Alex. It was too late for regrets. she said grudgingly. "It's okay, teach, what's done is done, and second place isn't that bad than disqualification."
