"Madam Kim, we know you wish to protect your son, but his gift it too dangerous. If gone unchecked he could become unstable and be a danger to everyone. You must understand our position and consider the option of suppressants." One council member said as other's nodded in agreement.
"Members of the council, as your head I have always respected and listened to your thoughts on all matters. However, in the matters of my son you must understand why I am weary." Mrs. Kim said.
"We have all sacrificed things to limit the chance of one person having more power than another in these council chambers. We have established that no one person should have the kind of power that can overshadow the real reason this council was started. This council was started to find solutions that our society faces, not use our power to manipulate the outcomes." Another member chimed in.
"My son would never put his own interests before another person. He is one of the kindest most self-less people to exist in this world. I agree that this council was started so that every creature would have an equal say in their own future, and many have sacrificed things to be sure no decision made here was tainted. I only ask that you consider the risks involved in having someone take a drug that can affect them in unknown ways." Mrs. Kim said almost pleading the council to reconsider.
"We faced a similar decision when you were appointed as Council Head madam Kim, and we had decided against the use of suppressants. Look how that power was used and eventually lead to a disastrous result." Yet another Council member said speaking up.
After those words were spoken, the chamber fell silent. Although some agreed to this point, it was a matter not spoken of often. It was a very sensitive and personal subject, because Mrs. Kim had all but lost her husband because of her own powers having no limits. She knew she had used her powers to try and help her husband, but because of her over confidence she lost him. He was left as shell of his former self, and she did not wish for anyone to face the same fate. But how could she ask her son to do something she even couldn't do? She knew the possible side effects of the drug, how it can change you.
Suppressants are used for many different reasons. It is used in many cases for creatures who wish to suppress their more animalistic instincts, to keep them from taking over. In other cases, it is to suppress ones power to a more controllable level. Which was the case for fairies who had special gifts, they would take suppressants in the cases when their power could be too dangerous if they did not know how to use them or control them. In most cases it was easier to use drugs then train the fairy to use their power carefully, which proved to be the real issue that no one wanted to admit.
Mrs. Kim had known the grave mistake she made not knowing what her own powers were capable of, but she had faith in her son and wished him to be free.
"Members of the council, my family has served as Head of Council for generations, and we have never gone against a request made in these chambers. However, I have sacrificed so much of my life with my family to serve here. I had not the time or training to learn how to use my gift properly, and that resulted in a tragic even, one that I can never forget and live with daily. My son is a bright boy, and he is a far better person than I can ever hope to be. I think with proper training he can learn to use his gift properly and we can avoid any negative outcomes. I ask you to consider the risks and benefits together and come to a conclusion that would not force a 21-year-old to give up part of who he is because of fear." Mrs. Kim said proudly before bowing and excusing herself so the members could vote.
Meanwhile…
"I can't believe you did all this Tae!" Jungkook said looking around the surprise room.
"Well, I had help, but I did my research and made sure to pick out the best of everything." Tae said smiling.
"Wow, I am still blown away. How did you know what stuff I would like? We never talked about all of this because I was a little embarrassed." Jungkook said shyly.
"I asked your mom! I told you I had help. Your brother also helped, he picked out all the comics that he knew you loved growing up." Taehyung said walking over to a cabinet with glass doors filled with comics.
"You really made me my dream nerd den! Everything I ever loved growing up is in here! This must have cost a fortune; you didn't have to do all this!" Jungkook said feeling a little guilty.
"Are you kidding? You have given me so much; this is the least I can do!" Taehyung said walking toward Jungkook and wrapping him in a back hug.
"I haven't done anything." Jungkook said softly.
"You made me the happiest person alive!" Taehyung replied sweetly.
"I am pretty sure I am the happiest person alive, but I guess you're a close second." Jungkook teased.
The smiled and giggled while looking around the room.
"Come on let's play overwatch!" Taehyung said leading Jungkook over to the couch.
Across from them was a very large TV that was perfect for gaming and the couch was the most comfortable thing Jungkook had ever sat on. He hoped that he would never have a serious fight with Taehyung, but if he ever did he wouldn't feel too bad having to sleep on this couch.
"So how many rooms are in this house?" Jungkook asked.
"Five. There is this room, the master bedroom, the office, a guest bedroom, and uh…" Taehyung paused for a second. "…the nursery."
Jungkook choked a little on his drink at the word 'nursery'.
"A-a nursery?" He asked, his voice cracking.
Taehyung nodded. "Now don't freak out, ok? It was already a nursery before, and I tried to renovate it but both of our mom's almost bit my head off. I guess at some point they expect grandchildren." Taehyung said awkwardly.
"Oh uh, I see." Jungkook said shifting in his seat.
"Look I know that's a lot to think about right now, so don't worry! I am not expecting that, and if it never happens, I am sure they will understand. Besides, we are both still really young, so we can always talk about it later when we feel more ready!" Taehyung said trying to calm Jungkook down.
"Um, ok." Jungkook said still having an internal panic session.
"Jungkookie, please don't freak out. We dont have to have kids, ok? You know how parents are, they always say they want grandchildren, but they want us to want it too. So don't worry!" Taehyung said softly. "Jungkookie? Remember our deal?"
Jungkook sighed. "It's not that I don't want to have children, it's just I didn't think I would be thinking about it at this age. Like you said we are both pretty young, but I wouldn't be against talking about it in the future." Jungkook replied with a half-smile.
"Really?" Taehyung asked happily.
Jungkook nodded and was attacked with a bear hug and tons of kisses.
The truth of it was that Jungkook wasn't sure how they would have a child, would they adopt? That seemed like an obvious option but he kind of wanted his kids to look as pretty as Taehyung. The fact is since he had bonded with Taehyung, he had thought about their future a lot. That included having a family, but he knew it wouldn't be easy for them. He would love to give a child without a family a home, but would that child feel unloved if in the future they decide to have a child of their own through surrogacy? He did not any of their children to feel unloved, so he had some concerns that he had not worked through yet when Taehyung had brought up the subject.
All Jungkook could think of was that he didn't know how to be a good father. He never had a father, never even knew his name. So how would he know how to be a good father if he didn't have an example to look up to? He decided there was no way he would feel ready to be a father, so the only thing he can do is jump in and try his best. However, he did want to finish college first, so there was still time to read every book there is about fatherhood.
Back at the Council Chamber…
After waiting nervously for an hour as the members of the council discussed their decision, Mrs. Kim was asked to rejoin the others in Chambers to hear their decision.
"Madam Kim, we have discussed the matter at great length and have reached a decision. We hope to welcome Taehyung as our Council Head when he is fully prepared to take on the role, only if he is willing to take medical suppressant as prescribed by a doctor. However, if he does experience any negative side effects due to the use of this drug, we do not wish him to put his own health at risk and would advise alternate options at such a time." Said the council spokesperson.
Mrs. Kim felt her heart drop to hear the council's decision, but she thanked them for their consideration of her concerns and bowed to them. She left soon after to tell Taehyung the news. This kind of thing should be shared in person, and the doctor was asked to visit Taehyung immediately and she wanted to be there with her son.
Jungkook and Taehyung had been happily playing video games for a few hours when Mrs. Kim arrived.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" Taehyung asked as he and Jungkook sat down with her in the living room.
"I have just left a meeting with the council." She says taking a moment to think of the best way to share her news.
"I am guessing by how sad you look, that the news isn't good?" Taehyung guessed.
Mrs. Kim nodded. "They wish for you to undergo suppression treatments." She said sadly.
Jungkook reached over taking Taehyung's hand, and Taehyung tried not to feel hurt by their decision.
"It's ok mom, I guess I can't be too surprised, I over did it a little at the presentation." Taehyung said feeling defeated.
"It is not your fault son. You did nothing wrong! You are very special, but there is a lot of fear toward people who have such strong powers. The council members had all agreed when they joined not to sue their abilities to influence the decisions of matters discussed in council chambers, and they expect the same form The Council Head as well. I'm so sorry." Mrs. Kim said apologetically.
Jungkook turned to the doctor, who was currently checking Taehyung's vital signs.
"What kind of side effects do we need to look out for?" Jungkook asked.
"Most people do not experience any severe side effects, but there are some to look out for. You may feel fatigue or a little dizzy at first, the drug is suppressing the part of your brain where your power comes from. So, it may take a couple of days to adjust. You may feel a little weak, but again that's pretty normal. The side effects that can be concerning is constant headaches, hard time breathing, or fainting spells. These are all signs that your body is rejecting the drug. Like I said these don't occur often, but they are possible. If you experience any of these, stop taking the drug immediately and call me. We will need to make sure there is no long-term damage." The doctor advised.
Jungkook looked at Mrs. Kim concerned, and she was unable to meet his eyes. She felt too guilty.
"If he does experience any of those side effects and can no longer take the drug, what would that mean for him becoming Head of Council?" Jungkook asks Mrs. Kim.
"They said at that time an alternative solution will be discussed. So, at this time they have no definite decision." Mrs. Kim said glancing up at Taehyung.
"Ok so Taehyung, this is the suppressant. It is given once a week by needle, and by me alone." The doctor said showing Taehyung the vile and needle. "I will give you your first injection now."
Taehyung held onto Jungkook's hand tightly and closing his eyes as the doctor injects the drug into his arm. Taehyung feels his arm cool as the drug travels through his body, and he shivers from the chill. He lets out the breath he was holding and rubs his arm where the needle had gone into his skin. Jungkook reaches over and puts his arm around him bringing him closer and rubbing his arms trying to warm him.
"I will be back next week for your next injection. Jungkook please keep an eye on him today and make sure he rests. Since it is the first injection it may feel a little intense." The doctor said packing up his supplies.
Mrs. Kim apologized to Taehyung once more before taking her leave with the doctor. Jungkook and Taehyung stayed seated for a little while longer to let Taehyung warm up again.
"How do you feel?" Jungkook asks.
"Still a little cold, but not too bad." Taehyung said with a shiver.
Jungkook reached over behind Taehyung for a blanket that was draped over the back of the couch wrapping him tight. They sat in silence for some time before Jungkook realized Taehyung had drifted off to sleep. He wrapped his arms around Taehyungs waist and legs lifting him and carrying him toward the staircase. When he reached the second level, he realized he didn't know which room was which. They had only seen the game room before they got distracted playing overwatch, and Jungkook had not had the house tour yet. He held Taehyung tightly against his chest and tried his best to open the first door he walks up to.
After he turns the door nob and opens the door slightly, he pushes it open more with one of his feet. The room was large and had yellow walls and the ceiling was painted light blue like the sky and soft clouds painted all over. There was a white crib on one side and several toys all around. There was a white wardrobe and a matching bookshelf full of stuffed animals and children's books. A smile came over his face as he looked around at all the effort their mothers had put into the room even though they had no children yet. Jungkook just shook his head and turned away to try another room.
Finally, he found the right room and set Taehyung down softly, lifting his legs and placing them under the covers. He left a soft kiss on the other's forehead before taking his place on the other side of the bed. He took out his phone and earbuds and picked a show to watch while Taehyung slept. Once in a while he would glance over and check that Taehyung was comfortable, occasionally softly brushing hair out of his mate's eyes receiving a scrunched nose in response.
Jungkook would softly chuckle at how cute Taehyung was pouting in his sleep. After about an hour Taehyung rolled over and wrapped his arms and legs around Jungkook trapping him in his grip. Jungkook giggled and wrapped on arm around Taehyungs shoulder and sat back against the head board settling in for a long afternoon of cuddling his sweet sleepy fairy.
