Chapter 1: The Beginning

It was yet another hot, sunny day in New York, when suddenly…

"Clemmie! Clemmie get your ass back here!"

"Haha Loser! You're just mad that you're getting your ass beat by a girl!"

"Am not!"

"Are too!"

You may be wondering who the two yelling at each other are. Or not. I don't know you and I can't tell you what to think. I'm going to tell you who they are anyway though.

The one yelling for his best friend to wait up is Alistair Matthew McCormick, and the girl who, so gracefully, pointed out that he is 'getting his ass beat by a girl' is Clementine Margret Williams.

It may seem like they are two fairly normal children, and for the most part they are, but there is something you don't know about them. No they don't secretly have superpowers or some shit like that, I'm not that kind of author. But Alistairs dad is first in command in the Mob. In fact Alistair is going to inherit his father's position in the family mob someday.

I've said enough about him. You might be wondering about Clementine now right? No? Well too bad. She's a very important part of this story. Clementine's childhood isn't that interesting in the same sense that Alistairs is but she has her own family thing going on.

Her father got kicked out by her mother after her brother Theodore was born. She was only 3 years old at the time so she doesn't have many memories of him. The ones she does have though are of her father beating her mother and herself. He desperately wanted a son and so whenever Clementine was born he was enraged, taking it out on her and her mother. Once his wish was granted and Theodore was born he decided he wanted to turn things around and become a good father but luckily Fran (her mother) had enough and kicked him out. Her family hasn't heard anything from him since then. After her father left though her mother turned to drinking and drugs so Clemmie was forced to raise her younger brother

Clearly neither of them grew up in ideal family situations but they were both very strong and got through it. Plus they had each other. Alistair and Clemmie were the best of friends growing up, even though he was 4 years older than her.

Skip forward to after high school, since that's where our actual story begins. Alistair graduated before Clemmie, obviously, so after school he started working for the family business along with going to a local college to become a detective as a day job

Clementine on the other hand had much bigger plans. Right after high school she moved to Hollywood with her aunt Carol to become an actress. She had always dreamed of becoming an actress, just like her aunt. Sadly that didn't work out very well. She kept getting small roles in local commercials and street plays but nothing big. Her career never picked up. Because of this she eventually decided to move back home to New York, even though her aunt offered to help her on more than one occasion.

So she got on the plane, hopped on a bus and here she is, 7 years later, in the place she had hoped she didn't have to come back to
