A loud grumble reverberated throughout the room and they stopped as if time stood still. Beatrice looked down and realized the grumble was from her stomach. It was awfully loud that it seemed as if a dragon was living in it.
"Was that yours?" Lucas faced her with an amused expression and Beatrice wanted to drop herself in the bottom of the ocean.
She was entirely embarrassed and the look on Lucas's face was not helping at all.
"You know, I just cooked us some lunch so would my wife have the pleasure of evaluating my refined skills in cooking?" her face scrunched up with the way he was talking and she was trying her best not to burst a laugh.
She knew he was trying to ease up the discomfort she was feeling due to the embarrassment and it was working quite fine.
"Lunch? What time is it?"
"It's already past noon, you've slept quite a long time."
Oh, that's why she felt too relaxed and refreshed, she did have a good night's sleep after a long time.
"But I thought you were going to a business meeting today?" She remembered their conversation yesterday and wondered why the heck was he here?
"I just came back from the meeting, and you were still asleep so I decided to cook some lunch until you misunderstood everything and here we are" she wanted to facepalm herself remembering what she just misunderstood not too long ago.
"Let's go down and eat, wife." Her ears perked up from the word 'wife' and a solemn expression crossed her face.
Lucas noticed the sudden change of atmosphere, "Wife, what's wrong?"
"Lucas...Can you stop calling me wife? I mean, yes, we're married in paper and in church but...you know we don't have feelings for each other..like trust or adoration or..love. So you calling me wife is just out of place and wrong." She glanced up at him but she couldn't read his mind as Lucas's face was shrouded with his usual poker-face.
"There's nothing wrong here, Beatrice. You are my wife so I can call you wife." Lucas's voice was deep and there was something mixed in it that made her shudder in intimidation and it sent shivers to her spine.
"But Lucas-" she was interrupted as Lucas stood up and faced her with a clenched jaw.
"Let's just go down and eat, wife" His voice was commanding and there was force in it, compelling her to obey.
Lucas stormed out of the room and Beatrice wondered why he was so upset in complaining about him calling her wife. She just thought it sounded wrong and was absolutely unnecessary. They have no feelings or whatsoever and they never spent time knowing each other. She was just tossed to his side and married him on-the-spot. She may be exaggerating and making it a bigger problem but Lucas calling her wife was just…. wrong.
She glanced at the door where Lucas had stormed off and was brought in deep thoughts.
Lucas was like a coin with two different sides and she had witnessed it firsthand. The first one was kinda goofy and comfortable to be with while the other one was cold and intimidating. And now she's wondering what truly is his real self and what more sides could he possibly show?
Was there more to Lucas than what he had shown to her?
Beatrice stood up and went out of the room only to stop in her tracks and gawk at the spectacle of Lucas's house. The house was entirely modern with a floor to ceiling glass covering almost the whole first floor. The glass panes made it possible for an open view of the well-kept backyard, swimming pool, and lush trees.
Beatrice was standing on the second floor, gripping the railings and admiring the interior of the house that looked as if a billionaire owned it, well truthfully a billionaire is owning it and he goes by the name Lucas.
"Wow!" she couldn't help but express her admiration as she felt like a modern aristocrat and a Queen at the same time.
"Wife, come down and get some lunch!" she sighed as her complaint was just shrugged off and Lucas continued on calling her wife.
But screw it all, she's starving and she could feel her stomach crying the hell out for anything that would satisfy it.
She clutched at the steel railings of the staircase as she carefully but with haste went down the stairs.
The kitchen and dining room was neatly arranged and looked spotless clean that she was a teeny tiny bit afraid and ashamed of having the urge to dirty it. But she shouldn't waste blessings and gladly eat the food Lucas had given to her and…..somehow dirty the kitchen.
She plopped down on one of the dining room chairs while Lucas served her some food. There was steak, vegetable salad, and stuffed rolled chicken breast.
"What's this?" She pointed at the chicken breasts cut into thin cutlets and stuffed with unknown fillings.
"Oh, that's Chicken Roulades. Try it, it's good"
"Oh ok," she replied without any care since she only asked for formalities.
Although she basically adores food and can eat whatever is served to her as long as it's edible and the taste is fine, she never bothered knowing the recipe's name since why would she bother herself If in the end she would just eat and consume it.
It also boggled her mind how many restaurants change recipes' names even if they're mostly all the same throughout and that they're just competing for fancier and confusing names.
And what's more aggravating, some restaurants dare to include other languages just to make it sound brilliant and fancy while customers are just there sitting and thinking what the hell does that mean….
Ok enough restaurant talk, I'm starving to death and the food in front of me is making me salivate that I could feel my taste buds craving for anything
"Oh God! this is some good stuff!" She groaned with satisfaction as she couldn't help herself but wolf down on the food.
The steak and chicken were both juicy and soft as she chews it down and the flavor of exquisiteness bursts inside her mouth. And although she kinda hated vegetables the salad was finished in a matter of minutes.
"Excuse me" she burped loudly and she could hear laughter ringing in the background.
"Wow! Who knew you stuffed a monster inside your stomach!" Lucas laughed with great joy and it was annoying her since the reason he's so happy he could die to death was all because of her.
She just has to show him how she could stuff huge amounts of food in her stomach.
"So what? Can't a woman eat comfortably? And besides, I was starving" she brought another piece of the chicken rou-something to her mouth.
Lucas brought her a glass of cold water after she was done eating and she gladly accepted it since she's very full from the meal.
"So Lucas Let's get down to business….
Why did you marry me?"
