She's Worth It

Lucas planned for them to eat together but an hour passed and there was no sign of Beatrice coming out from her room. He watched some videos on youtube to pass some time but he couldn't concentrate on whatever he was watching as he was constantly looking upstairs and he kept alert in case she came out from the room.

'Guess she's not coming out' he thought to himself as he glanced upstairs.

I couldn't blame her, what I did to her was absolutely wrong and I stepped out of the line. But she shouldn't starve herself like this. She should take care of her body more.

Lucas stood up to remind Beatrice to eat breakfast but as soon as he took one step on the stairs, he heard her door open and close.

His eyes grew wide and he could feel the adrenaline pumping through him. He was frantic as he sat back on the couch and grabbed a book that was randomly lying beside him. His back was facing the stairs and his face was fully covered by the book so he couldn't see Beatrice who was descending down the stairs.

'What am I doing?' He asked himself as he turned the pages of whatever book he was reading. But he was not paying attention to it.

Beatrice just came down on the last step of the stairs and gave a confused look to Lucas who was reading a…...telephone directory?

She also noticed that the T.V. was on and was showing cat videos. Uh-huh, cute cat videos.

She pursed her lips as she tried to suppress a laugh and drew in a high breath to calm herself and avoid the situation of her laughing at him.

"Are you trying to call someone?" She couldn't help but ask as Lucas was really focused on his book and gently flipping the pages.

"Huh, what are you saying?" Lucas has his nose up to the book and didn't bother to give her any look.

"Umm. You're clearly reading the telephone directory so I guess you're trying to call someone."

Lucas became stiff as he finally paid attention to the book he was reading. It had telephone numbers and names on it and he felt extremely flustered as Beatrice caught him reading a telephone book. He knows that reading the telephone book was very weird and Beatrice just saw him doing that.

"U...um, yeah. I'm trying to call someone" he stuttered as he tried to come up with an excuse.

"I also didn't know you like cute cats" Beatrice stifled a laugh as Lucas glanced at the video playing on the T.V and turned stiff.

He turned the T.V off and coughed lightly

"A..anyways, I cooked breakfast so let's…" he trailed off as he saw Beatrice wearing a simple outdoor outfit.

She was wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a skull printed on it. A black cap was on her head and her long jet-black hair was tied on a ponytail. She looked like she was about to go outside.

His expression suddenly changed into a cold one and his poker-face wouldn't let Beatrice know what's going on with his mind.

The atmosphere took a drastic change and it was unpleasant.

"Where are you going?" His voice was so deep and cold that she could feel icicles prickling on her skin.

"I'm just going to get my car from my father and find my phone somewhere"

There was silence between them and the air was awkward. Beatrice looked at Lucas and he was displaying his emotionless face so she couldn't decipher what he's thinking right now.

"I could drive you there." Lucas stared at her with his grey alluring eyes and Beatrice was so sure she was about to say yes in an instant.

But she shook her head and her hands at him."No, I'm just going to take a cab and besides, I wanted time for myself"

She firmly said and waited for his reply but Lucas was just silent.

"Don't worry I won't run away. I promise to hurry and return back." She added up and was about to turn her heels and go outside.

"No, let me drive you there."

Beatrice gave him an annoyed look with his stubbornness and she shook her head.

"I know I'm not trustworthy but I won't turn back on my word. If I said I won't run away. I won't. So just...let me have this time for myself since I'm practically chained to you for the entire three years"

Lucas clenched his jaw and there was something in Beatrice's words that pierced his heart.

"Then how about breakfast?" She stopped and glanced at him.

"I'm just going to eat outside when I'm able to get my car back" she stated nonchalantly.

"When will you return?"

"Duuh. Today, it's not like I'm going out for a trip." She said sarcastically "Is that all?"

Lucas hesitantly nodded and his head was drooped low. Beatrice couldn't see his face but he just shrugged it off.

"Ok bye!" she opened the door and stepped a foot outside.

"Oh and also, I might be late since I need to find my phone somewhere" she gave a light smile and hurriedly went outside the door in case Lucas changes his mind and stops her.

She walked a little bit of distance until she could see the gate and trotted by the side of the road waiting to hail a cab.

Lucas was left all alone in the living room before he could utter any more words. He stood still in the area where they just had a conversation a minute ago, motionless and discouraged.

His grey eyes were downcasted and his face showed a sorrowful expression. He looked at the dining table where two plates with a sunny side up egg and rice occupied it. It was arranged neatly with a spoon, fork, and a table napkin beside the plates.

It was simple but Lucas made an effort. The burn on his arm was still bothering him but it was all in vain. His efforts were all in vain.

"Guess. It was impossible" he talked to himself as his plans were all thrown in the trash because Beatrice hurried and went out.

He shook the feeling of dejection and sadness that was looming inside him but they were all clinging at his heart like an unwanted bug.

"At least I won't eat that burnt egg now." He tried to cheer himself up but he felt more pathetic.

'Even this simple plan of mine didn't work. How could making her fall for me be possible if from the start it was already failing'

He sighed and pulled a locket in the pocket of his pants. The locket had a tattered picture inside it and Lucas smiled as the locket was able to cheer him up like how it would usually do.

"But still, it isn't late to try hard and do my best for her.

After all she's worth it"
