"Great. Class, now that you are all warmed up, we can move on to the next activity!" Giggling with unconcealed delight, Carol examined the cluster of students laid on the ground, who were panting furiously.
"You all should be happy to hear this. We're playing dodgeball today!" Sparkling, Carol winked.
Crawling around, out of the students on the floor, a rather pretty girl with soft features spoke up, "Miss, you really enjoy to torture us, huh…"
"Katie, correct!" Carol shamelessly agreed with a smile. This time, she brightly added, "We'll have two captains choose the teams, and these two lucky people are Colt and Tylem."
"Since Tylem is a new student, it's only fair for him to pick first. Go ahead, young man."
Being put in the spotlight, Tylem had no choice but to accept being the second team's leader. Since he was not familiar with the names of his classmates, he needed to pick a person who could help him.
Regardless, even if Tylem did know the names, he would have picked the chubby boy anyway.
"I'll pick Kaden," Tylem said.
In response, Kaden jumped up with a proud appearance as if such a choice was only right. When the other students saw this, a few of them helplessly smiled.
The sole person who had an unusual expression was Colt. It was a face full of maliciousness. Playing dodgeball, it seemed that the heavens were on his side.
It was a physical game that was unavoidable to have some 'honest' accidents occurring…
"Keke, after I deal with the transfer, he will know not to step out of place and be familiar with the hierarchy." That way, Colt could maintain his position as the unofficial leader of the class.
The picking continued, and everyone began moving to their new team's side.
"We'll pick Arthur," Kaden stated. The nerdy-faced boy, who was Colt's shuttlecock, was the last male in their class. Besides some girls who hated physical activity, the selection phase was mostly completed.
Carol did not mind that Kaden was helping Tylem pick his team. It was natural since a new student would not know his classmates that fast, which included their names and skill level. There was no need for a one-sided affair.
. . .
Looking at his new team, Tylem's face remained indifferent. There were eleven people in total. From the names he managed to remember, there was Kaden, Katie, and Arthur.
Carol, the energetic female teacher, had separated the two teams to be on opposite sides of the gym, separating the zones with rows of red cones.
There were wooden benches on each side at the edges as well.
"Pal, I bet you're great at dodgeball as well." Picking up a large blue ball, Kaden declared with complete confidence. "Big master, please carry this little one."
Rolling his eyes, Tylem thought to himself, "I was average at best in my last life."
"Hey Tylem. You're quite the fast runner!" Walking up toward Tylem in a shy manner, Katie honestly commended.
For the first time since he had transferred, one of the girls had decided to speak to him. Tilting his head, Tylem replied to the child, "So-so, I guess."
In the back, Arthur watched the two interact with a face of unconcealed envy. The world was unfair. Why would Katie speak to the transfer? Just because he was athletic and slightly good-looking?
"Sigh." Kaden noticed Arthur's look of jealousy, and he shook his head.
It had been months with Arthur unable to work up the courage to speak a single word to Katie. Without the guts, how could he blame others?
Very soon, the game of dodgeball began.
The whistle had been blown. In a game between children, there was not much planning, and the two sides just fiercely threw balls at each other whenever possible.
Time passed, and around half the students from each side had been eliminated. Kaden was doing an excellent job of controlling the game. Right now, their team had the slight edge; the chubby boy's accuracy was great.
However, Carol, with a curious but disappointed expression, had a different thought while watching.
Carol sighed, "Is this student too lazy or what? So far, he has not even moved to pick up a ball."
The entire time, Tylem was doing nothing but dodging. To be honest, his evasive skills were fantastic, but she wanted to see his throwing power, which would unveil some of his hidden strength.
It was a shame. Carol desired to analyze just what the new student could do. If her intuition was correct, the child was destined to achieve great things in sports.
Meanwhile, underneath the basketball hoop, a tall boy was picking up the largest ball he was able to find. In this game of dodgeball, there were different sized balls of varying materials.
With a sinister smile, Colt eyed the chubby boy while arrogantly spinning the ball around on his hand. Since he was going to teach the transfer a lesson, he might as well take Kaden down a peg as well while he was at it.
How dare the two of them stomp around in his lair without care.
Taking aim, Colt had a smug look. With one eye closed, he dashed toward the centerline, getting ever closer to the chubby boy. Having taken the appropriate run-up, he violently threw the ball with all his might.
"Die."
Kaden had been running toward a free ball in the corner, and he did not see the dangerous ball that was flying toward his cheek. Furthermore, he was even about to turn around to meet the ball face first.
The timing was awful.
"Kaden, watch out!" Tylem shouted, but he was too far away. It was too late.
The moment Kaden turned around, the ball had already swiftly closed the distance; it was now an arm's length from his face. There was no time to dodge as the ball crashed into his nose, coldly knocking him onto the gym floor.
Bam.
The teacher was quick to react.
"Colt, come here this instant!" Carol screamed in an icy manner that the class had never seen before. Quickly running toward Kaden, she was in an urgent rush to examine the damage done.
Kaden's nose was bloodied, and he was awkwardly rubbing it with the occasional yelp. Perhaps, it was even broken. In the end, he concealed his embarrassment from the others, including Tylem.
"I'm fine…" Kaden weakly smiled.
He did not want to appear weak in front of his bro, after all.
"…" But how could it be hidden from Tylem? In anger, he clenched his teeth.
When Tylem saw Colt's blatant contempt after dealing such a ruthless blow to Kaden, his deep eyes turned cold. Picking up a ball for the first time in the entire game, he held it firmly in both hands.
Like a hurricane, his right arm instantly surged with explosive strength. The effects of cultivation were miraculous. From his control and strength, everything was heightened. In fact, Tylem could even see the exact angle to throw the ball at, and he did not hesitate at all as he raised the ball.
"Stop, Tylem!" Shouting, Carol perceived the danger.
But it was too late.
Swish!
The sound of the large red ball cutting through air violently resounded. This ball seemed to tunnel through space and time as it ripped through everything in its path.
No one had the time to react, and eventually, the large red ball found its target.
Colt's pupils dilated in sheer fear. It was the natural fear one would have toward a superior being's killing intent.
The thundering collision that awaited him... Colt shivered. Time seemed to stop as his arms trembled, recognizing he had no chance to dodge at all.
For the rest of his life, Colt would forever remember this unforgettable moment. The terror he felt right now was indescribable with words alone. Likely, he would piss himself at the mere sight of Tylem from henceforth.
Boom!
The large red ball collided directly with Colt's stomach, causing his tall body to fly over five meters backwards. The child's helpless figure spiraled many times in the air before ultimately falling to the hard floor with a loud thud.
"..."
The gym was so silent that the sound of a pin dropping would be heard.
Crawling on the floor, Colt was clutching his stomach with snot and tears all over his face, puking out various fluids. When the teacher and students saw this, none of them knew how to react.
This… was this the power of a middle schooler? No… in their eyes, it was the power of a demon.
